Koos Cummings is a Westmorelnnd i
farmer. On Tuesday night of last week
while he was riding nlone near lagan's
Ferry he encountered a footpad, who I
leveled a pistol at him. commanding
hitn to halt. Mr. Cummings threw his
well filled pocket book into the dark
ness and dismounted. The highway
man searched the farmer's pockets and
finding no money put up his pistol and
jogged down the road. On the follow
ing day Mr. Cummings returned to the
s|Mit and found his money.
The foolkiller is needed in Lebanon
county. Frank I'ndercufl'er is an ap
prentice in the blacksmith shop of John
Harper in Jackson township, and dur- i
ing a discussion with William Kat/aman
remarked that he could not hit him
with a loaded shotgun at a distance of
forty feet. Katzaman having a firm
belief in his power told Undercufler to
take a position at that distance, and he
would prove it. The young man did as
he was told, and shortly afterwards re
ceived a heavy charge of shot in his
legs. The shot were equally distributed
ami at present Cndercuft'er is satisfied
to lie on his back.
