The Government trocps, numbering 3.500 men, engaged the Rebels, whose force numbered 7.000, at 11 o'clock. The battle lasted till sundown. The Rebels were driv en from thiee entrenchments across the river with great loss. Their camp was burned, with all their stores and baggage. Both of our Generals hail their horses , shot from under them. Col. Dougherty of | Illinois, was wounded and takeu prisoner by 1 the Rebels. The Relit-' loss is not known. The Gov- j eminent loss is believed to be from thiee to S five hundred. Further Particulars of the Battle at Belmont- ' CHICAGO, NOV. B.— A special dispatch to day gives the particulars of the fight at Bel mont, yesterday : Our force consisted of the following Illi nois regiments:—Twenty-second, Colonel Daugherty ; Twenty-seventh, Col. Buford ; ; Thirtieth, Col. Foulke : Thrrty-fiifth, Col. Logan : Seventh lowa Regiment, Col. La mon ; Taylor's Chicago Artillery, and Do- ; len's and Delano's Cavalry. They left Cairo on the steamers Alexander Scott. Chancellor, Memphis and Keystone State, accompanied I by the gun-boats Lexington and Tyler. — i After landing they were formed in line of battle, Gen. McCicrnand in command of the ; Cairo trcops, and Col- Dougherty in com mand of the Bird's Point troops. They were encountered by the Rebels, i 7,000 strong, and fought every inch of their way to the enemy's camp, making terrible havoc in the enemy's ranks. Col. Buford was the first to plant the Stars and Stripes in the enemy's camp. Col. Dauglurty's regiment captnred the Rebel battery of 12 \ pieces, two of which were brought away.— ! Col. Foulke's men suffered greatly, as they j were in front of the batteries before they were taken. After taking possession of the Rebel camp it was discovered that the Rebels were cross ing over from Kentucky for the purpose of attacking us in the rear. The order was given to return to the boats, when our men were attacked by the reinforcement of sev eral thousand Rebels from Columbus. Another severe engagement took place in which our troops suffered seriously. We have two hundred and fifty prisoners, a num ber of whom are wounded. The rebels had three hundred killed. The ground was com pletely strewn with their dead bodies The Rebei Colonel, Wrigh't, of the Thirteenth Tennessee Regiment, was killed. Genera! Cheatham commanded the Rebels, General Polk being at Columbus. It is stated that General Johnston, of the Rebels, was woun ded. The gun-boats rendered efficient service in covering our retreat, mowing down the rebels with grape. Some of our men were killed by the fire. A flag of truce left Cairo this morning for Columbus, with from forty to fifty wounded Rebels. From the Naval Expedition. BRILLIANT SUCCESS. TOREE FORTS CAPTURED. RUMORED CAPTURE OE CHARLES TON. NEW ORLEANS IN JEOPARDY. BALTIMORE, Nov. 13. Passengers by the Old Point boat report that the flag of truce which arrived yesterday from Norfolk hro't a number of reports, one was that after the capture of the three forts at Port Royal by the U. S. troops, the Rebels fell back to Beaufort, where a terrible stiuggle took place. They also represent that the people of Norfolk wire in a terrible state of excite ment. Four fishermen, who came in from across James River last night, corroborate the re port of the capture of Charleston which had been received through five deserters on the previous day. The Norfolk Custom House, together with a large amount of stores, was entirely con sumed by fire on Sunday night last. CAIRO. 111., Nov. 11. —The* MI niphis pa pers received here to-day contain a dispatch from Savannah fully confirming the landing of the Naval Expedition at Beaufort and the capture of the three Rebel forts at Port Royal, Hilton Head and Bay Point. The Federal forces ha I possession of the town of Beaufort. The Rebels acknowledge their loss to have been very large. Our loss was eight men and one officer. V\e captured everything, including many of the officers' swords and commiss ons, all the public and private papers and letters, among which was a telegram from Jeff. Da vis to *he commander of the port, informing him of the sailing of the fleet, and that its destination was Port Royal. The Southern papers also speak of an immi use fleet in the mouth of the Mississippi and that an attack on New Orleans is hourly expected. From East Tennessee. THE UNION SENTIMENT BECOMING TROUBLESOME. Raiirond Briilgei Itnrmd lo Rclr.ril the I'rogrc*. of the Rebels. A very heavy wooden bridge at Cbarlston. Bra fly county, Tennessee, was distroyed on the evening of Friday last, Charleston is seventy-five miles southwest of Knoxvifle and contains two hundred inhabitants. This action of the Union men will convince the government that East Tennessee will redeem herself if an opportunity offers. THE Balsamic Cordial is entirely a Vegetable prbduction, combining the healing proper ties of the Balsam, with the invigorating quali ties of a Cordial, producing a combination so well adapted to the purpose intendedf that there are but few eases of diseases which will not, at an early period, succumb to its healing and life giv ing proj erties. For ages, has the treatment of pulmonarv dis eases occupied the greater portion of the attention of the scientific of the medical world, but none acquired more eminence in his treatment of these diseases, than the celebratsd Prussian Dr. Hoof land, the originator of the Balsamic Cordial. His life was devoted to the production of remedies that would stand udrivalled. How well he has suc ceeded, the American people are able to judge : and we positively assert, that no that have ever been placed before them, have confer red the samo amount of benefits on suffering hu manity, or have elicited so many commendations from all classes of society, as the remedies of Dr. lloofland, prepared by Dr. C. Aed for the speedy cure of the following complaints: Scrofula and Scrofulous Affections, such as Tumors, Ulcers, Sores, Eruptions, Pimples, Pustules, Blotches, Boils, Plains, and ail Shin Diseases. OAKLAND, Ind., 6th June, 1559. ' J. 0. AYER & CO. Gents: 1 feel it my duty to an. knowledge what yonr Sarsaparilla has done fur me. Having inherited a Scrofulous infection, I have suffered from it in various ways for years. Sometimes it hurst out iu Ulcers 011 my bauds ami aims; sometimes it turned inward and distressed mo at the stomach. Two yeans ago it broke out on my head and covered my scalp and ears with one sore, which was painful and loathsomo beyond description. I tried many medicines and several physicians, but without much relief from any thing. In fact, the disorder grew worse. At length 1 was rejoiced to read in the Gospel Messenger that you had prepared an alterative (Sarsaparilla), for 1 knew from your reputa tion that any thing you made must be good. 1 sent to Cincinnati and got it, and used it till it cured me. I took it, as you advise, iu small doses of a teaspoonful over a month, and used almost three bottles. New and healthy skin soon began to form under the scab, which after a while fell oIT. My skin is now clear, and I know by my feelings that the disease ha; gone ficm my system. You can well believe that I feel v'hftt I am saying when I tell you, that I hold you to be ne of the apostles of the age, and remain ever gratefully. Yours, ALFRED B. TALLEY. St. Anthony's Fire. Rose or Erysipelas, Tetter and Salt Rheum. Scald Head, Ringworm, Sore Eyes, Dropsy. Dr. Robert M. Preble writes from Salem, N. Y., 12th Sept., 1859, that he has cured an inveterate case of Dropsy, which threatened to terminate fatally, by the persevering use of our Sarsaparilla, ami also a dangerous Malignant Erysipelas by large doses of the same; says he cures the common Eruptions by it constantly. Broncliocele, Goitre or Swelled Neck Zebu lon Sloan of Prospect, Texas, writes : "Three bot tles of your Sarsaparilla cured mo from a Goitre a hid eous swelling on the neck, which I had suffered from over two years." Leucovrlifpa or Whites, Ovarian Tumor, Uterine Ulceration, Female Diseases. Dr. J. B. S. Channing, of New York City, writes ; *' X raost cheerfully comply with the request of yom* agent in saying I have found yonr Sarsaparilla a most excellent alterative in tlio numerous complaints for which wf employ such a remedy, but especially in Female Diseasa of the"Scrofulous diathesis. 1 have cured many Riveter* ate cases of Leucorrhoea by it, and some where the com plaint was caused by ulceration of the uterus . The ulcer ation itself was soon cured. Nothing within my know) edge equals it for these female derangements." Edward 8. Marrow, of Newbury, Ala., writes, "A dan gerous ovarian tumor on one of the females in my family, which had defied all the remedies wo could employ, ha: at length been completely cured by j*our Extract of Sar saparilla. Our physician thought nothing but extirpa tion could afford relief, but he advised the trial of you. Sarsaparilla as the last resort before cutting, and it proved effectual. After taking your remedy eight weeks no symptom of the disease remains." SypSiilis and Mercurial Disease. NEW ORLEANS, 25th August, 1859. DR. J. C. AYER: Sir, I cheerfully comply with the re quest of your agent, and report to you some of the effects I have realized with your Sarsaparilla. I have cured with it, iu my practice, most of the com plaints for which it is recommended, and have found its effects truly wonderful in the cure of Venereal and Mer curial Disease . One of my patients had Syphilitic ulcers in his throat, which were consuming his palate and the top of his mouth. Your Sarsaparilla, steadily taken, cured him in live weeks. Another was attacked by sec ondary symptoms in his nose, and the ulceration had eaten away a considerable part of it, so that. I believe tlio disorder would soon reach his brain and kill liiiu. But it yielded to my administration of your Sarsaparilla; the ulcers healed, and lie is well again, not of course without some disfiguration to his face. A woman who had been treated for the same disorder by mercury was suffering from this poison in her bones. They had become so sen sitive to the weather that on a damp day she suffered ex cruciating pain in her joints and bones. She, too, was cured entirely by your Sarsaparilla in a few weeks. I know from its formula, which your agent gave me, that this Preparation from your laboratory must be a great remedy; consequently, these truly remarkable results with it have not surprised me. Fraternally yours, G. Y. LARIMER, M. D. Riieumntism, Gout, Liver Complaint. INDEPENDENCE, Preston Co., Ya., 6th duly, 1859. DR. J. C. AIER: Sir, I have been afflicted with a pc.iu- , fnl chronic Rheumatism for u long time, which baffled the skill of physicians, and stuck to me in spite of all the remedies I could find, until I tried your Se.iuaparilla. Ouo bottle cured me in two weeks, and restored my general health so much that I am far better than before I was attacked. 1 think it a wonderful medicine. J. FKRAM. Jules Y. G etch el I. of St. Louis, writes: "I have hoe* afflicted for years with an affection of the Liver, whieh destro ed iny health. I tried every tiling, and every thing failed „o relieve me; and I have been a broken-down man for some years from no other cause than derangement of the. J Aver. My beloved pastor, the Rev. Mr. Espy, advised me to try your Sarsaparilla, because ho said lie knew vow, , and any thing you made was worth trying. Ry the hi ing of God it has cured me, and hns so purified my blood us to make a new mail of me. 1 feel young again. The best that can be said of you is not half good enough."
