fjual Jepriiwitf. .THURSDAY, OCrTuth 1860. | The Election is Gv ?r. For months nothing has been heaid ef or talked about save politics. Conventions' as sembled, men were Dominated, and these men must be elected.; and iD order that this very desirable end be accomplished a suffi cient number of votes must be polled, and to secure a majority of the votes in Pensylvania was the great duty end desire of the politi cians of all parties. To accomplish this end speeches many and 1 cng must be delivered, lengthy articles must be published, in order to convince men of tho correctness of cer tain principles and bc fallacy of others, acd to tell them how to vote in order to save the Union from dissolution, the country from ruiD, and tho people from starvation. All this and more has been done. Long processions, with many lamps, flags and banners have marched to and fro, bands have blown their loudest notes and drums have done their loudest beating. Much money has been spent, much liquor has been drank and much fighting has been done.— Vile, contemptible slanders have been per petrated, and stories to low and mean to be repeated by honorable men, have been put circulation, about men—high-minded, lion* orable men—inen who stand so high above those who resorted to such means, that they will never he able see deep enough into the cess-pools of depravity and degradation to recognise them in their low grovlings.— All this has been done, and wby ? Because men must be elected to office, to administer the affairs of government ; and because dif ferent parties had their candidates and wanted them elected. All was done with reference te that one great day, the 9th of October, 1860. And that day came at last tho long expected ,: second Tuesday" came end went, just like any other day. The same sun rose in the same placs that it rose before, and the earth rolled on the same. But the scenes transacted by the people, nt least in our town, and ot course in all other places, were, very different from those transacted before. 1 aried, indeed, wore the doings of the people. In tho morning the voters of SpriDg and Benner townships commenced gathering to this place for tho purpose of exercising the right of freemeD. These men, in connection with tho citizens cf this town made quite a crowd. Things went off pretty quietly, du ring the day, but as evening approached, tho excitement became high,,partly from political euthusiam, but mostly from tirunk oness. And when night came on Men then drank who never drank before. And tlmss who always drank then drank the more and as natural consequence much rowdjing and fighting was done. The wildest excite ment prevailed until morning. During the greater part of the night we were a silent observer of passing events, in all quarters of the borough, and from what we saw, we think there never was such a night in Belie fonte. ToC ur Local Headers. During the last two months we have ooea obhgci to omit the greater part of our local intelligence for want of room. Our paper contained the List of Premiums, the Election Proclamation nod our usual aaic unt ot Advertising. This left us very little room for reading mattter, so that, in euch a spirited CRtnpaign, wh&t matter wo had must r.eeessnrily be of a po litical character. Now that the Premium list and tho Proclamation have l<.en dispen sed with, and one of the elections is over, we ■will b9 able to make our paper mare, iot er esting. l;y giving our readers all the local in telligence, that may come under our obser- | vatiou. j Latest Heturn3. This is the reasoD why they did not receive them at the proper time. ! New Goods. * D. M. Wagner has just received a large and splendid Stock of Goods, which nre being sold at remarkubly low prices.— Beside the quality and cheapness of the goods, there ia another thing which recom mends this store to tho public. Sanctioned by the highest Medical Authorities, both in Europe and the Uni ted States, and perscribed in their practice. Th c-experience of thousands daily proves that no preparation of Iron can be compared with it. Impurities of the blood, depression of vital ener gy, pale and otherwise sickly complexion indi cate its ncoessity in almost every conceivable case. Innoxious in all miladies in which it has been tried, it ha" proved absolutely curative in each of the following complaints, viz: In Debility, Nervous Affections, Emancialion, Dyspepsia, Constipation, Diarrhoea, Dysente.y Jn cipient consumption, Scrofulous Tuberculosis, Salt Rheum, Mismenstruation, Whites, Chlorosis, Liver Complaints, Chronic headaches, Rheumatism, In termittent Fexers, Pimples on the Face, tf c. In cases of GENERAL DEBILITY, whether the re sult of acute disease, or of the continued diminu tion of nervon3 and muscular energy from chronic complaints, one trial of this restorative has prov ed successful to an extent which a description nor written attestation wouid render ciedibie. Inva lids so long bed-ridden as to have become forgot ten in their own neighborly ods, have suddenly re-appeared in the busy world as if just returned from protracted travel in a distant land. Some very signal instances of this kind are attested of female Sufferers, emaciated victims of apparent marasmus, sanguineous exhaustion, critical chan ges, and that complication of nervous anu dys peptic aversion to air and exercise for which the physician has no name. In NERVOLS AFFECTIONS of all kinds, and for reasons familiar to medical men, the operation of this preparation of iron must necessarily be salu - tary, for, ui like the old oxides, it is vigorously tonic, without being exciting and overheating ; and gently, regularly aperient, even in the mo3t obstjnato cases of costivehcss without ever being a gastric purgative, or inflicting a disagreeable sensation. It is this latter property, among others which makes it so remarkably effectual and permanent, a remedy for Piles, upon which it also clears to exert a distinct and spocifie action, by dispersing the local tendency which forms them. In DYSPEPSIA, innumerable as are its causes, a single box of these Chalybeate Pills has olten suf ficed for tho most habitual cases, including the attendent Costiveness. In unchecked DIARRIKEA, even when advaeced to DYSKSTERy, confirmed, emaciating, and appa rently malignan', the effects have been equally decisive and astonishing. Iu the local pains, lots of flesh and strength,de bilitating cough, and remittent hectic, which gen uraLy indicate INCIPIENT CONSUMPTION, this reme dy has allayed the alarm of friends and physi cians, in several very gratifying and interesting instances. In SCROFULOUS TCBECCULOSIS, this medicated iron has had far more than the good effect, ftf the most cautiously balanced preparations of iodine, without any of their well known liabilities. The attention of females cannot be too confi dently invited to this remedy and rest-war ice, in the cases peculiarly affecting them. In RHEUMATISM, bcthchrooic and infiainatcty— in the latter, however, more decidedly—it has been invariably well reported, both as alleviating j pain and reducing tho swellings and stiffness of the joints and muscles. In INTERMITTENT FEVERS it must certainly bo a great remedy and energetic restorative, and its progress in tho new settlements of the West, will probably bo one of high renown and usefulness. No remedy has ever been discovered in the whole history of medicine, which exerts such prompt, happy, and fully restorative effects.— Goou appetite, complete d igestion, rapid acquisi tion of strength, with an unusual disposition for active and cheerful exercise, immediately foilow its use. Put up in neat flat boxes containing 50 pills, price 50 cents per box ; for sale by druggists and dealers. Will be seDt free to any address on re ceipt cf the price. We do not learn m crl -'ly the dignity and sacredncse of pure patriotism* byfol lowing them in their career amid the st orms ?f the Represented in such bold relief, in the pri vate and public actions of that venerated compa ny, that when we rise from a perusal of a narra tive of their lives, we fell as if all the noble qual- ' ities of our common manhood had been pacing before us in review, and challenging our profunnd , reverence. The biography of a great man, is an history 0 his own times; and when we have pursued the record of the actions of the men of our Revolu tion, we have imbibed a general knowledge of the i great events of that struggle for Freedom. If : this proposition is true, then we feel that this vol ume has a claim to the public regard, for the au thor has endeavored to camprise within as small a compass as a perspicuous view of the subject wo'd j allow, the chief events in the lives of the men . who stood sponsors at tho baptism in Mood of our ; Infant Republic.
