Before the advertising was begun the Belber Trunk and Bag Company had no clear and thor ough knowledge of the merchants who were selling its trunks and bags te the consumers. A large part of its product was sold under the special labels of jobbers and retailers. In the second year of advertising such prog ress had been made by an energetic sales de partment in establishing strong retail connec tions that it was possible te publish (in The Saturday EvExNing Pest of December 8, 1917,) a double-page advertisement in which were listed the names of dealers selling Belber luggage. Six years of steady advertising, closely related te the work of the sales force, has ac complished the following results, as described by Leen C. Sunstein, Vice President of the Belber Cempany: "It has raised materially the standard of the luggage carried by the American public. There has been created a much keener appreciation of fine luggage than existed five or six years age. "It has stimulated the activity of the dealers. The department stores as well as the luggage shops have reacted te the increased interest en the part of the public. This has resulted in an improved and mere profitable business. "Fer our own institution it has wen preemi nence in the luggage field and definitely estab lished for Belber traveling goods a reputation for quality with the dealer and the consumer. This has helped greatly te secure desirable distri bution. It has gene still further and secured for us a splendid dealer cooperation. "Our annual sales volume has increased ap proximately 500 during this period. Even dur ing the present year, when there has been some complaint regarding dull business, our factories have been kept busy. With the largest produc tion in our history, the supply has been con siderably behind the demand ever since the beginning of the year." And today 90 of their product is sold under their own label. There is no lack of advertising leaders among Philadel phia manufacturers. But there are many who have net yet learned te profit by the example of these leaders.
