M;,v; vrrw y A-T?A&MvtflA, WEDNESDAY; AttCrtfStt Unique Educational Exporlmont Brought to Clone and Girls Go Back to Jobs LAST EXERCISES SIMPLE On Everybody felt blue nt Bryn Mnwr Colloge today. The hour hnd comr- for the Rolnir home of the eighty-throe jr,lrl who left their positions In various firltl. of In dustry, eight week ngO, to nttend the unlouo mimmcr fichool with which the college blncd an cdurntlonnl trail. Informal commencement exercise were held last night In the way of ilnglng on the roof of the gymnasium with a dance following. Hut the cxoiUk from the campus diB not begin until this morning. There were suitcases nplonty nnd Bromines to write, and onco In a while there was a stray suspicion of molsturp In bright bluo or brown eyes. Here 1 was the rub. Theso girls who today -,.f return to their positions ns tele- nhonft operators, laundresses, garment workers, waitresses nnu the line do not mind that. They are the type of girl who aro honestly Interested it) their work. Have to Lrnve New Friends Tt was hnvin tn nnrt with all the newfound friends that made the home tolng a real sorrow. And the members of the faculty nnd the tutors who watched the lltt'e moiips "f bapgago-lnden girls wnlk rather slowly down the bright green campus felt every bit no badly ns tlm rlrls. Some of the girls have to go ns for as California to get homo. They represent nearly every State in the Union. "There was genuine regret on all sides," said Mrs. Chadwlek Collins, an Alumnae member of the Joint Admln- jftrative Committee. "The girls 'wero not dissatisfied to leave because they had to return to their positions, but It was just they hated to leave Hryn Miwr and every one hated to see them leave." Wait for Results The question that looms big in edu cational circles throughout thp 'rj is whether the Ilryn Mnwr S uer School for Working Girls, the In t of Its kind In the country, will continue "This matter has not been finally decided." Mrs. Collins explained. "The experiment wax undoubtedly nn unqual ified success nnd every one feels It would be n distinct rnlnmity If the girls of Industry should not by circumstances be permitted to come bnck. "The question is miirc n financial one than anything else. At the present moment the outlook is bright nnd the general feeling Is that tpe girls will be v.lth us again next summer. The do cMon restH, however, with the Joint Administrative Hoard, composed of rep resentatives of the women workers, of the alumnae nnd the college." In summing up the results of the tight weeks' course Mrs. Collins snld : "The question Is ho broad that It Is hard to know Just where to begin. One of the Important things the girls learned wntj tolerance. When they came here each had her own vIcwm and thcro were many arguments, but they learned to listen nnd hear the other side, and even to become interested in the other side. "Another thlng'they learned was that theories only become of great value when an nttempt is made to see how they would work In practice. Many of our girls were extremely bright, but necessarily they hntl many theories. "Our aim was to give the girls a broad, liberal cducntlon not pnttlculnrlv to specialize. We wanted to fit them for working better nnd for playing bet ter, too. Ono important thing wns to tench them the value of rclaxntton nnd to show them everything taught and learned need not have an Immediate re lation to the job. "The slrls seemed to absorb these Ideas. From the standpoint of the faculty and the students the experiment was an unqualified success." sjTMMKH nninnw CATflKIM. MOUNTAINS. N. Y. CAT8KILI MOUNTAIN. N. V.
