The only help is a plunge Into a pool tvery afternoon, and some of us can not always get to a pool. However, all the better for those who do. They have more room. Spcakjng of pools, hnvo you seen tho nirl Scouts' enmp at Langhoimo? It opened the nrrt week In July, and every Monday has seen a truckload of little Scouts start off from headquarters mider the supervision of Mlns Frances Clark, who Is director of the local They rldo out to tho camp, which Is n trip of seventeen miles, and they havo a wonderful timo going and coming, let me tell you. This week Miss Owen Martin, of Chestnut Hill, who has a splendid troop f Scouts and who Is assistant com missioner of tho Philadelphia flirt Scouts, 1b out at camp with a number of her girls. There are eighty-five to a hundred girls In camp each week, and thty have tho greatest fun you ever knew washing dishes and clcnrlng up their tents and helping with tha cook ins and hiking around, studying tho birds and trees and flowers and mos quitoes, too, for that matter. But m one of their captains sold to me "After the first hundred bites you don't mind them so much." And this Is true of orctty nearly every place this summer mosquitoes so ltfs nothing against the camp to say they havo some of tatm out there, too. ...., . Then it b near Ncshnminy Creek, and the girls can wade, and swim, too, whero it is deep enough. They have a splendid time, and one little Scout actually added four and a half pounds to her weight in one week. That's doing extremely well, I should say. The Executive Board of tho Girt Scouts of Philadelphia includes Miss Ellen Mary Cassatt, commissioner; Mi Martin, vice commissioner ; Miss Helen Hopo Wilson, treasurer; Miss Ellrobcth . Fox, Mrs. Clyde Ham bright, Mrs. David Stern, Miss Frances Clark, directors, and Miss Katherino Hutchinson, chairman of the council. MR. AND MRS. ALECK VAN RENSSELAER are having a very fileasant time this summer. They were n Europe, you know, for a couple of months, and then came home In May and remainod at Camp Hill, their place in Fort Washington, until a couple of weeks ago, when they went up to Nar rauansott Pier to visit their son, John Fell and his wife, who, you remember, was Dorothy Randolph. And now they have gone on to Dark Hnrbor, Me., where they arc visiting their son-in-law and daughter, the Antelo Devcr euxs, who havo a cottnge. Mr. and Mrs. Devcreux gave a dinner last eve ning in their honor. Mrs. Van Rensselaer's eldest daugh ter, Mrs. Bobblo Cassatt, is in Europe for the summer, and her other daughter, Mrs. Gouverneur Cadwalader, Is spend ing mo?t of the season at her home in Fort Washington. Next month Mr. and Mrs. Van Rensselaer arc going to camp In Arizona and will attend the famous Indian snake dunce. SPEAKING of summer destinations, the other day in going over the Sum mer Register I saw that Dr. and Mrs. Bdrr and their family aro In North east Harbor this season. As a matter of fact, that is a mistake. Mrs. Burr is with her mother, Mra. Thomas Learn ing, who, you remember, was hurt by an automobile about two months ago, and Dr. Burr is dividing his timo be tween Mrs. Learning's home and his town house. Their daughters have been visiting friends most of the season or are with their mother at their grand mother's. You will be glad to hear that Mra. Learning Is very much cotter, thongh tho recovery has . been most tedious. rpHD family was expecting friends for dinner one of those hot nights and said friends had a, car. In nn un guarded moment Daddy said to Mother, "I hope they tako us for a ride." "Hope they do," said she, to find Junior, aged five, gazing at her with an Intent expression. With quick thought Mother said, "Junior, remember, you It Is Too Warm to Bake but one need not be without delicious rolls, wholesome bread and tasty buns not while the excellent electric bakeries of Meenehan are taking care of you. Thus we find a Western editor crying "shame and disgrace" upon the "fickle and unappreciative," Mammon-worshiping nation which can not out of its vaster resources do for its soldiers what Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, France, Bel gium, and Italy have done for theirs; which will not compensate the men who fought and suffered and bled for $1.00 a day while shirkers at home were getting $10.00 a day and the profits of war-time business were making 23,000 new multimillionaires! Strong as the support of the bonus plan is among politicians and former soldiers, the pub lic in general, says the Philadelphia North American, seems to regard it with diminishing favor, and since Secretary Mellon and President Harding have spoken, approval of their posi tion and editorial indorsement of their arguments have appeared on every hand. Both sides of this bonus question, as shown editorially by the leading newspapers of the country, are presented in a striking article in this week's LITERARY DIGEST July 30th.
