Many of th cottaRers are arriving for the summer and a num ber of the palatial summer villas are now open. There will be considerable interest in nival circles this season, for a Inrge number of destroyers of the United States Navy will make headquarters in this region, and probably a notable panorama will take plare in the waters of Narragnnuett Bay. It is stated some 150 destroyers and auxiliary craft will assemble here for the season. Perhaps the chief topic In social cir cles is th recently announced cnciiKC went of Miss Gladys Deacon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Parker Deacon of Boston, to the Duke of Marlborough. The Duke Is tho divorced huBband of Conruelo. the only daughter of the lata William K. Vandrbllt. nnd the present Mrs. Oliver H 1' Belmont. Mrs. Oliver H. P. Belmont who ar rived here on the William K. A anderbtlt racht Eagle, has leased Sea Cove ilia for the season. There is some specula tion as to whether Marble House, Mrs. Belmont's beautiful villa, will be re opened or not. , Captain and Mm. Hugh L. Wil loughbv, who returned not long ago to Philadelphia from Florida, have arrived at their summer residence here. At the Newport Country Club golfing hai been revived. During the week manr golfers have made the rounds over the links, which are In fine condition. Bailey's Beach will reopen today for the season, and here, far from the "madding crowd," the so-called smart et will find diversion basking In the sunshine on the sands or taking n re freshing dip in the Invigorating breakers. Tennis hag engaged the attention of a number of the cottagers, and the Casino courts have recently been the scene of lively practice matches. The invitation tournament will take place the first week in August and the Davis Cup events August 18-10. Reginald C. Vanderbllt is in Europe and presumably will be a spectator at the International polo matches.
