', Jnte JUST GOSSIP ABOUT PEOPLE Nancy Wynne Sees Pretty frock Worn by Debutante of Coming Season She Talks of Several Debuts This Winter ISAT Eleanor Oummcy on Chestnut street the other day with her mother, r Charles Frnncls Gummey. Elca or Is comlnjc out this Benson you know. T have heard of a number of parties which will bo given In her honor, among them n dinner dance, at the IIcIIcyuo fitrntford. Eleanor Is very awcet look fn. She' has Roft, rather llpht brown hair and brown .eyes, ''and when I haw her she was wcnrlnjr a frock of brown tnfTcta Bilk mado with a draped over dkirt The Bleeve of the bodice were of darker brown georgette and her hat was a brownish henna straw trimmed with small flat filowcrs. Mrs. "Oummcy was wearing a very dark cult and n round, straight brim med silk hat of the same shade(a sort of dark gray blue). The Qdinmeys have a country placo in Pcnllyn, and in town live at 2120 Locust street. ANOTHER girl who is coming out next yenr is Sophie Tnrnnll. She Is tho voungest daughter of Mr. nnd Mrs. Charlton Ynrnall, whose winter iiomc is at Seventeenth and Locust streets. Agnes, her' 6Ider Muter, did not make her debut formally as wc ..... of Ml In the throes of the tvar or tho armistice (for no social gayctics utarted up till the year after the armi stice you remember), but she will do her going out this yenr ns she did last. Sophie, whose name is Anna Sophia, is named for her grandmother, Mrs. Alex ander Brinton Coxc, who was Silas Bophle Norrls. Mrs. Yarnall was Miss Anna Brinton Coxe, you remember. It was Mr. and Mrs. Charlton Yar nall who had the first meeting of the Parents' Lcaguo at their homo latt spring, when it was decided to curtail the entertainments for the younger peo ple; that is, to have earlier hours for the children's parties and not such elaborate entertainments. I understand, by the wny, that plans have ban got together to really carry out the sugggesttons formulated and ac cepted nt that meeting. And it's a mighty good thing, O-'ho children will lose nothing by it, that's sure, nud will have everything to gain through the earlier hours and less elaborate dinners. I sometimes wondered how they stood some of the parties they went to at the age of fourteen and fifteen. At one affair I heard of given before one of the dancing classes a dinner of eighteen courses was scrvcdi and tho children themselves got worried nnd wondered if they could eat nil in sight. Manners being a thing of tho past, sev eral of them arose and ran thrice around tho table "to mako room for more," as one expressed it to mo later. However, this is digressing entirely from the fact that, Sophie Ynrnall Is to come out this yenr. Sophie is very tall and has fair hair, though not so fair as her sister Margery, who you.rcincm ber married Arthur Ncwbold, Jr. She is graceful and dances very well nnd is very popular in the younger set. rpHEY were twelve, ten nnd eight X years of age, and Jack, the eldest, was the ringleader in most of the ox cltements which took place in their house. They havo n lovely summer bomu with a little lake and an island with a delightful little summer house thereon. Well, these dear little children had a governess who was very, very fond of them, and while they did not say iust how thov felt about her, you might arc been able to draw your 6vn eoni elusions in the matter had you been there the day mother announced, "Chil dren, I have asked Miss Brown out to spend the day with us on Thursday, and I want you to help me give her a happy day." Well, Thursday arrived, nnd mother hnd to go into town in the car, but she nent Jack and Eleanor to the station in their pony cart to meet Miss Brown. They did so nnd explained that mother had had to go in, but would be back for lunch and they were to drivo her home. Miss Brown was delighted he was with her dear little pupils once more. They reached the house and Eleanor politely did the honors, took Miss Brown to mother's room and helped her off with her coot and hat and escorted her down to the porch. They nut quiet for a while, Miss Brown industriously making uplifting remarks, and then Jack proposed n row on the lake. The lady was delighted and off they started, Jack and Eleanor and Frances, too. And they rowed straight to the island and having landed Miss Brown first, they pulled blithely off and left her there. Mother came home an hour later nnd called to her peta: "And whero's Miss Brown, didn't she come?" Oh, yes, she came, nnd ve were so sure she'd stnrt lessons in another minute, we put her on the island," said Eleanor com posedly. NANCY WYNNE. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Mr. George A.
