Is the leason for this to be found partly or wholly in the unrest which has been unsettling economic and social conditions? Ate tho women of today less sensitive to the appeal of humanity? Arc they less tender of heart, pooioi in sympathy for the ijrnoiant and unfortunate? Hae they less endurance than the women of an eailier generation? Must thev engage only in work that is easy, with the shoit hours, many holidays, n smattering of technical knowledge and big commercial returns? When the sum total of the benefits derived from a nurse's piepaiatoiy tiaining is made, it will be seen that she is 100 a finer and broader woman as a result. Hni iched by her experiences, educated by extensive technical opportunities, matured by the discipline she has undergone, the nurse is a'better citizen and better prepaicd to meet the issues of life than the oidinary woman whose only oppoitunity for development ha been derived from that which the ordinary academic or collegiate course affords. Who will bear the responsibility for the sick in hospitals and in private liomps if the educated woman refuses it? Who v ill carry on the traditions built by Floience Night ingale if sl'p lopudiates them? The time is nppioaching when manv of tho younger women will choose n paiticular line of work to follow as a piofession, or a vocation. Thev should weigh well the i'lcalculnhlc advantages which tho nursing piofession offers befoic they reach a decision.
