Yonng Women nnd Olrls Schools for the Education of Women For the Nursing Profession Believing that many young women would be glad to enter training schools in hos pitals throughout the State of Pennsylvania as pupil nurses if they knew of the great op portunity for service and to qualify in one of the greatest professions open to women, a Committee appointed to serve in the interests of the Nurses' Training Schools, whose names appear in these columns, are conducting a campaign for the purpose of securing en rollments in this noble profession. Sv&Ztfgz 7-?&! I ?&k Mi 11- fill I 'Jt&TEhf&l '.'lri'!;'ifl tF1xty?'if- '" W KW ill I Message On the Ethics and Practice of Nursing It is said that tho number of women entering training schools for nurses grows less each year. Is the reason for this to bo found partly or wholly in the unrest which has been unsettling economic and social conditions? Are the women of today less sensitive to the appeal of humanity? Are they less tender of heart, poorer in sympathy for the ignorant and unfortunate? Have they less endurance than tho vomen of an earlier generation? Must they engage only in work that is easy, with the short hours, many holidays, a smattering of technical knowledge and big commercial returns ? When the sum total of the benefits derived from a nurse's preparatory training is made, it will be seen that fIic is 100 a finer and broader woman as n result. Enriched by her experiences, educated by extonsive technical opportunities, matured by tho discipline she has undergone, tho nurse is n better citizen and bettor proparcd to meet tho issues of life than tho ordinary woman whoso only opportunity for development has been derived from that which tho ordinary academic or collcgiato courso affords. Who will bear tho responsibility for the sick in hospitals and in private homes if tho educated woman refuses it? Who will carry on the traditions built by Florence Night ingale if she repudiates them? The time is approaching when many of tho younger women will chooso a particular lino of work to follow as a profession, or a vocation. They should weigh well the incalculable advantages which the nursing profession offers before they reach a decision.
