Even If tie memories of ntlu-r Chriitmaics made the lump come In the thront. You were happy, because, with the real spirit of Christmas, you atrove to make others happy, ami that's what counts, Isn't it? There were a number of parties last evening. One has to be careful lifter an illness like that. It was ty- Shold, you know. And do you rcmem er. Mrs. John L Lewis was ill nt the 8amo tlino? Iler's wns also a very serious and tedious case, but she, too, Is better now. AND tonight wo have no less than tVo balls, though the Roland Taylors call theirs n dame. It's going to be very large, and then there will 'be the Benedicks' ball nt the Ititz-Carlton. The Toylors's ball is'given for Elizabeth Ann, their second daughter, who is :i bud this year. Though some of the debutantes will go to the Benedicks' ball, It is, generally speaking, for the older set, and so it is just as well there am two big affairs the day ufter Christmas. There will be a great many dinners and theatre parties, before botb parties tonight. ONE feels bo sorry for the children of Mrs. William Claxton, who, after a hard fight for ilfe. died twd dnjs be fore Christmas in the Chestnut Hill Hospital. You remember she feu on the ice just outside of her daughter s home more than ten days ago. She was perfectly unconscious at first lj'tuf.a cerebral hemorrhage, brought on by tne fall. Later she 'returned to conscious ness, and there was decided hope for her recovery until Monday, when she relapsed again into unconsciousness from a second hemorrhage and died on Tuesday morning. Her three chlldrenr-Mrs. John H. Storer, Mrs. Hebnrd and Ollvevwero with her, but the third duughter, Lmille Claxton. who has been in. California, was on her way home and did not reach here in time. , T Mrs. Claxton, was Miss Emilio La Fnrge, a daughter of the famous artist, John La Farge, of New xork. She was also a descendant of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, and was a niece of Mrs. William Pepper, of tins city. Her funcrnl took place on Wednes day morning in Chestnut Hill, and the interment was in Newport, R. I., where her mother, Mrs. John La Farge, lives the greater pact of the year. Mrs. Claxton was one of the most charming of women. Intensely inter ested in good works, a fervent member of her church, her life was r.n edifying example of the valiant woman. Her "death 'is,- indeed, a great .loss to the community, especially in Chestnut mil, L, where, she hnd lived for many years. DID you hear that Florence Wood ruff Hopkinsonlina'n wee daughter? And I am thinking what a consolation this wee baby will be to ,them all. I SAW Barbara Boyd looking a per fect picture on Tuesday afternoon. She had on a black velvet soft tarn o shunter and n leopard bkin coat, and she was carrying what do you think? Nothing less than a young Christmas tree. She reminded me of the pictures of the spirit of Christmas vth her bright face and fur coat. Barbara is the daughter of the Knickerbacker Boyds. of Twenty -first and Spruce streets.
