STREET CAR DYNAMITED
i
Explosives Used In Knoxvllle When
Nonunion Crews Operate Trolleys
Knowlllo, Tenn., Nov. 7. (By A.
P.) Major General 13. AI. Lewis, com
manding federal troops in Knoville, is
investigating three attempts to dynamite
street cars manned by non-union crews
and the firing into a car during the last
twenty-four hours.
Two of the attempts to blow up ears
failed because dynamite placed on the
tracks was not primed with percussion
caps. The third attempt was more suc
cessful, a dynamite explosion shatter
ing glass in a passing car and demolish
ing the tracks. No one was injured.
Yesterday marked the first attempt
of the street railway company to resume
nijht bchedules since the strike of its
conductors and motormen several weeks
ago, although daylight service was re
sumed a few days after the strike was
called.
More than a thousand federal and
state troop1 sent here primarily be
cause of the strike are held in readiness
for duty either here or in the coal fields,
but so far (jnve not been called upon
to quell outbreaks.
