JOHN ML PATTERSON Republican Candidate for Mayor Primary Election, Tuesday, Sept. 1 6 A STATEMENT TO THE REPUBLICAN VOTERS OF PHILADELPHIA: On the eve of the Primary Election, let me strip this campaign of all false pretr se and get down to essential facts. The opposition to my candidacy for the Republican Mayoralty nomination has not dared in this campaign to attack my record or question my word, nor has it at any time met the real issues squarely. On the contrary, it has used every trick and device to confuse the public mind. It has charged that I am the Vare candidate, and with this as an excuse has kept the floodgates of abuse and misrepresentation wide open. I am not the Vare candidate. I am a candidate for the Republican nomination for Mayor, and I appeal directly to all Republican voters. If I am nominnted and elected, I will obey only the expressed will of the people and will certainly know no master. That statement ought to be clear enough for any one to understand. Now let me dispose of the so-called contract issue once and for all. m the matter of street-leaning contracts, I have made a definite pledge in my platform. As to other public work, if I am 'elected Mayor, Edwin H Vare, as well as any other contractor, will get a city contract only on these conditions: He must be the lowest and best bidder. He must bid under open and honest specifications. If he is awarded the contract, ho must carry out its provisions to the letter, under the supervision of inspectors, with whose appointment he has nothing to do. Let me repeat that as Mayor I will know no master but the people, and l jjh- 1 " will live up to every pledge in my platform. TfcyipBwiii"i Jim J. Sri I A it imifA fynirf fltifms frk nut m .Inn Irs.
