NEW YORK COFFEE MARKET
New Yorlt, Aug. 5. The early dc
dine was checked around 20.50
December nnd 20.55 for March by sup
porting orders from a large Ynll street
houfe believed to be nctlng for promi
nent importers nnd jobbers. This de
mand was mostly for the March posi
tion. Shorts covered in December.
It is noted that in face of declines in
other mnrkets, Havre has advanced 5
to 0 frnncs during the past week. This
has been expluined bj the fact that
shorts were covering in September
which cnrrlcd these months upward.
The market has been in the hnnds of
speculative interests for some time past.

weather news
The early lueak carried
about 5 cents per pound below the
high records established toward the i
end of July and about 4 cents be- ,
low the high prices of last Saturday,
morning. '
This attracted heavy profit-takinK by,
recent sellers, while there was also some
trade bujins. which caused rallies of
some 70 to 100 points from the lowest
nnd gave the market n steadier tone
There was no change in the general
chnraeter of the news, but the more ur I
gent liquidation seemed to have run ,
its course on the early break, and I
there was not a great deal of selling
here for southern account.
The receipts at the ports today are
estimated nt 12,000 bales against 15,310
bales a week ago and 8004 bales a year
ago.

Trade in Oil Group Brisk Senti i
ment Is Cheerful I
London, Aug. 5. Trading in the oil '
group on 'he btock exchange wns brisk
today, with sentiment cheerful. Do
mestio securities were confused, tin
threatened extension of the walkout of
some railway employes offsetting the,
strike of the police, which Ims pnncd
n failure.
The gilt-edged section was softer.
Argentine rails were, however, pur
chased and mining issues were in free- I
supply. I
(icnerally the markets were irregular.

From the president's letter ive summarize as follows:
These notes are the direct obligation of the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, which
manufactures and sells smoking and chewing tobacco. Its leading brands are Camel
