i'Mrs. King Finds Opposition to
t Forming Chamber of Com
merce Here
?
FIELD FOR BOTH, SHE SAYS
Organization of btnoss women Into
a women's chamber of commerce Is
being opposed by the natlonnl Y. V. C.
A., according to Philadelphia women in
terested in the bringing together of
members of their sex in a business club.
"The Y. W. C. A.," said Sirs. Lcola
King, superintendent of the West Phila
delphia Homeopathic Hospital, who is
organiser for the women's chnmbcr of
commerce in this district, "is the only
lody that has opposed the organizing
of the proposed chamber. Whether its
executive board feels it would loso pow
er and prestige if business women or
ganized in a nonscctarian and nonpo
Htical bod , I do not know.
"For many years the Y. W. C. A.
has been one of the biggest national
organizations of women and I suppose
in some manner the women's chamber
of commerce might be its rival. But the
men have found plenty of work and need
for both a Y. M. O. A. and a men's
chamber of commerce, fo I feel sure
f there is not only room but a decided
' need nt this time for business women
to join hanus in a oiub."
At the convention of the newly or
ganized National Federation of Profes
sional and Business Women's Clubs and
the Women's Association of Commerce
in $$. Louis, Mo., this week, a dispute
developed among the delegates over the
part the national Y. W. 0. A. is taking
in the affairs of the federation. It was
claimed by delegates of the Women's
Association of Commerce that the Y.
W. 0. A. is trying to dominate the new
organization. Prominent 1. W. C. A.
women btoutly denied this charge.
There is n mocmcnt in Philadelphia
to establish a women's chamber of com
mWco here and it is probable the club
will be in working order this winter.
