F ftfr JSt Influenza reduces anthracite 1 production 500,000 tons At the time the influenza epidemic struck the mines, anthracite coal production was greater than it had ever been in history. During ihe summer all previous records had been bioken and the miners were gaining on the situation daily. The outlook for plenty of anthracite was excellent. But the influenza epidemic went 1 aging through the mines, strik ing down thousands of men, killing some, leaving others sb weak that they will not be themselves for months to come. In a few weeks anthracite production dropped 500,000 tons below normal and from a cause that no one can be held responsible for. AH sections of the country using anthracite will be affected by this shortage including Philadelphia. The signing of the military armistice is not going to diminish coal requirements. The situation can only be met by increased 'produc tion and rigid coal saving by consumers. Stretch your coal supply. Make every shovelful yield its maximum heat. Wc are confident that the situation can and will be met but only with your help. If you feel that your heater is using more coal than it ought to use, write the Domestic Fuel Engineer of the Federal Fuel Administra tion, Shubert Theater Buildinc; Philadelphia. He will send you a book let of helpful directions and advi cc. jP----r--a-rJ-& Cfe ,t , Ftderal Fuel Aittntnl3tratr for Philadelphia. . XMtJi .PUHf;HASING AGENTS' iMMtfBetfM r if . r -t li, , ry i.
