X. J., Sept. 16, Singing by the vnrlous units, which was a feature at Dlx while the Seventy, eighth was In training here, has not been taken up recently with the same vim that marked the efforts of the com manders of the other units. OITlcers here have observed that the men Boom to take to drills and mnrchea with greater enthusiasm when singing Is a part of the work. Major Oeneral Hugh U Scott, camp commander, has Instructed unit commanders to see that tho In struction continues, "It Is a very ex cellent plan," the order reads, "to con clude physical drill with marching while the men sing and battalions should bo assembled frequently for this Instruc tion." A cadence of 130 steps per min ute Is favored as the best marching step. Tho frcauent changes of troops nnd song leaders has had a lot to do with tho falling off of work along this line. Owing to the fact that a laxity has been noticed In the saluting by some olllcors and men of the camp, nil regl mental and separate organization com manders have been directed to devote fifteen minutes per day, until further notice, to Instruction along the lines of saluting.
