J., Aufj. 1". Among the thousands of men now stationed at Camp Dlx thero are about only Jx conscientious objectors, and It Is expected that their cases will be disposed of In the near future, so that the cant6nmcnt officials will only have to take care of the casei that come In each day. Tho reason for the reduction In the number Is the order from tho "War Department allowing tho furlough Ins of the real objectors for work on farms, and In this uny Dlx was able to release about thlrty-fle men for this sort of labor. The 'men must agree to work continuously on tho farms to which they are assigned, and failure to "perform their duty means that they will face a court-martial board. Two deserters were summarily dealt with by the court-martial board that heard their cases here. One, Trlvato Clyde M, Ward, of tho detachment at the school for bakers and cooks, was given a term of ten years, and tho other, Trlvato Clarence Bockman. of the IMo neers, was given twenty years because ho also faced an additional charge, which was later not substantiated, of wearing civilian clothes while a deserter. Ward gave himself up at his home town, Fort Wayne, Ind., while Bochman was nppro hended at Fort Dupont, Del. A, B. Meredith, aBslHtnnt director of educational work In tho State of New Jersey, who It at Dlx during the month of August aiding In the work of edu cating the non-English-speaking soldiers, Is now stationed at tho Y. M. headquar ters, and during tho temporary absence of H. A. Townsend, educational director, will have full charge of the work In camp. Among the latest secretaries to Join the Jewish welfare workers here Is Max Schlcbsteln, of Philadelphia, wso lost "his right arm whlla performing military duty on the Mexican" border with CJen crat Pershing. During one of tho upris ings at Brownsville he was thrown from his horse and his arm broken In such a way that amputation was necessary. Ho was discharged from the service last January and a short time ago entered tho training school for welfare workers. A vaudeville show vvas given last eve ning at the Dlx Theatro by the men of tho Eighth Battalion of the depot bri gade, and will bo repeated this evening Tho proceeds will be turned over to the battalion fund. The men of the Second Battalion arc planning to present "It Pays to Adver tise" In the near future. The players are being coached by Private Cliff Worman. who originally played In a Broadway company that presented the show with much success.
