Not that they dropped everything to go to him. Far from It. The tailor called on them nt the ship yard at the company's request and ex pense. The meaning of which is that the guards are to be uniformed. Like wise the Chester shipyard band. Tho musicians couldn't bear the thought of the guards getting nhead of them that way. Ninety guards and thirty musi cians were measured, nnd It wns Borne Job. The men were called Into tho police station one nt a time, and perspiration rolled from the tailor for hours. The suit builder wns ro busy he hnd to go without lunch, ;ml some of the boys ho measured had to swallow theirs In a hurt or take their chances of being without a uniform on Labor Day. That Is tha time set for delivery of the glad rags, and If nothing happens these new clothes will show conspic uously in the celebration on that day. There Is n crtaln uneasiness here and there, especially among the shipyard dandles about their uniforms, for there poems to bo tome uncertainty about colois, of the materials and trimmings, ll.li liku Fred (.'. Mumford, chief of tho police and tire departments, and Charlio Morris, foreman of tho blacksmith shop, who belong to tho band, prefer to know wh.it the aic to wear. They are very particular About all the musicians seem to know is that they are to bo uniformed. Color and trimmings seem to have been left somewhat to the tailor and conditions of tho cloth market. The guards have been Informed by tho tailor that their uniforms will probably be of Oxford gray, with caps to match, and leggings, probably an imitation leather of brown ish color. Labor Day is Just a llttlo longer oft than Mumford and Morris would like to hae it. Doth say they need a new suit, and that they can't wait that long. The tailor Is not making any promise to deller before Labor Day. rutting uniforms on all the guards alone Is quite enough to exhaust the supply of cloth. Of tho ninety members i at least a third are the biggest men Mumford could Hnd. Some aro giants, and the tailor was afraid to show his displeasure at their measurements.
