New' York, June 8.
Only a moderate 'amount of business
was transacted In the cotton market
today, but prices made a further gain.
Week-end crop reviews were optimistic,
the plants having progressed favorably
In all sections.
About the only complaint was that
outworms had caused some damage In
southwestern districts. The cloth situa
tion continued firm with mills sold Into
the full months and further large CJov
ornment orders for textiles. Including
underwear and blankets, are expected in
the coming week.
The opening was easy at a decline of
t to 10 points. Liverpool then was a
moderate buyer of July but sold later
positions. There was a small Inquiry
from "room traders and a spot house
while commission thins and uptown In
terests sold the list.
As the end approached, the market
became firm again on unfavorable east
ern private crop accounts, trade, Liver
pool and New Orleans buying. The de
mand went principally to new crop posi
tions. The close was 27 to 3(i above the
' final quotations of yesterday.
The receipts at the ports for the day
' are estimated at 6000 bales, agulnst
6727 bales a week ago, 85B9 hales u
year ago, and 11,063 liuleu two years
ago.
