The scrap ards of the country at I present are vlrtuall) bare of all mate I rials. I'sually at tills time, of the year the yards receive the scrap from all I over the country und separate It Into the different classes under which It is resold, and it lias ttlways been a fact that dur ing -May and June ull the yards of the country were tilled with products. This year, however, as stated here tofore, the yards have only Insignificant tonnage on hand, and as a result the subcommittee is planning to take steps to scour the. country thoroughly and locate all Hie scrap at mines, old con struction work, etc. Dismantled plants also will be gone after In atl effort to get the material and forestall as much as possible the shortage which it is ex pected will be felt In tin fall and winter months. There Is said to be large quantities' of scrap In some of the southern .States, and a special effort will M made to get this material shipped norti , where it can be assembled at the yards and sepaated for future use. Just how successful the plan will be cannot be foretold. Quite on,it structural steel orders were closed during the week.
