COTTON SOARS HIGH
ON STRONG CABLES
Uncertainty Over Election Re
sult Is Reflected in Trading.
Supply Is Good
NEW YOIUC. Nov. $. Strength was
shown at the start on tho Cotton Kxchane
this morning. Influenced by sharp advances
recorded In Liverpool. Klrst prices were
IE to 34 points net higher.
Business was widely scattered and the un
certainty over the election result seemed
to be reflected In the trading, as the higher
levels brought In a good supply. However,
the demand was sufficient to take care of
the pressure.
Tho early advance carried the market
about 43 to 46 points net higher, with May
sailing at 19.84, or back to within 20 points
of the season's high record, established on
October 25.
Uncertainty over tho results of tho elec
tion left sentiment very much confused
around tho ring, however, and the advance
met heavy realizing, under which there
were reactions of several points from the
beat before the end of the first hour.
Reports that Wall street was taking a
more optimistic view of tho election results
were followed by a steadier tone In tho
cotton market toward midday and prices
firmed up again, with active months sell
ing some 38 to 40 points above last Mon
day's closing figures.

WHEAT REACHES NEW
HIGH RECORD PRICES

CHICAOO. Nov. 8. After displaying pro
nounced strength on heavy buying by com
mission houses, party for Wall Ktrcet ac
count, as wrll as purchasing by foreign
firms and Investors, profit-taking cased the
whent market from tho top today. Tho sharp
advances followed a temporary dip after
tho start.
May sold at $1.91 H. a new high record,
compnrlng with tho previous top mark of
$1,884 attained on October 30. July also
sold Into new high ground, reaching $1.54 U,
ngalnst $1.B2 thfc previous top price estab
lished on October 28.
There was a big trade and private wires
were crowded with business and newa of the
election. . ...
Political discussions and the uncertainty
over the result of the election disturbed the
market at times. The offerings were malm
ly by speculators who were easily fright
ened. A Jump of about 4c at Winnipeg was ex
plained by large export orders. An advance
of ltflc at Hosarlo was a factor.
The Government places the weight per
measure bushel of wheat this year at 57.1
pounds, against r.7.9 pounds last year and
5X.2 pounds tho ten-year average.
