President Rea Says It Was More Re
sponsible Than War,
President Samuel Ilea, of tho Pitts
burgh, Cincinnati, Chicago nnd St. Louis
Hallway (tho Panhandle), In his annual
report to the stockholders, made public
today in pamphlet form, declares that
pcor business rather than tho European
war was the chief cause for the poor
earnings of tho company In the last fiscal
year, ending December 31, 1914. Ho goes
on to eay that "the underlying causes of
the unsatisfactory railroad situation un
fortunately continue to operate as they
did before tho war."

sion on Industrial Relations.
Chairman Walsh read letters in which
Bowers referred to efforts belnc made by
bankers and business men to "whip Gov
ernor Ammons Into line." One letter re
ferred to the committee as "political
wire-pullers." Another reference was
made to giving 'taffy" to Colorado offi
cials. Bowers explained In this fashion..
"Did your mother ever spank you, and
did you get candy or a cookie after
war da?"
When Walsh replied affirmatively,
Bowers stated:
"Well, that's what we did."
"And that Is your attitude. Is It? You
spank them and after they come around
and do what you think is right, qu give
