day Doctor Eaton said:
"This war Is the greatest blessing.
When It Is ended the world will be bet-,
ter and more enlightened than It has
been since tho days of Jesus. This Is tho
end of the world of hypocrisy. Tho ago
of selfishness and bigotry Is gone, und,
when t think of those thousands of boys
who have been shot that this might be
accomplished, I feel they have found a
good placo for what they have done

Social Union Will Hear Address on
"Neglected Field."
The quarterly meeting of tho West
Philadelphia Social Union Is to bo held
at Blockley Baptist Church, Fifty-third
street and AVyalusIng avenue, on Thurs
day evening of next week. Supper will
be served at 6:30 o'clock, and Is to be
followed by an address and conference.
The speaker will be the Rev. H. "Watson
Barrai, pastor of tho Frankford Avenue
BaptUt Church. "A Neglected Field"
will be his subject. The topic for dis
cussion at the conference Is to be "Chil
dren's Work In the Church."
Allen Lowell, president of tho Union,
Is to preside, and It Is expected that tho
church will be overcrowded. In tho Union
thero are men of 22 churches and the
total membership Is about C000.

TOURIST GLAD TO GET HOME
Dr. Lewis Lautenbach Didn't Find
Rest Tliero ns Expected.
Dr. Louis J. Lautenbach, of 33 South
Sixteenth street. Is homo front Europo
and Is exceedingly glad. Ho made the
trip to get a little rest. He did not find
the journey a quieting one.
When the war hroko out Dr. Lauten
bach was In Holland. Tourists Immedi
ately became objectionable characters. It
was Intimated to him that tho Govern
ment of Holland would be pleased If he
quitted tho country. Dr. Lautenbach left
Holland In a baggage car. Ho finally
managed to reach London. Ho had money
equivalent to a cohple of American dol
lars and thero was no hopo of Retting
more, as the banks were closed and
checks wore not honored.
Dr. Lnutenbach happened to bo known
nt a London hotel, whero ho was
housed until he could get money and
passn'go hack to tho United Stales. In
London Dr. Lautenbach Bald his name
was not popular. Ho was looked upon
with suspicion, as many persons bclloved
ho was n German.

NEW YORK, Sept. 19. More than 100,
000 -schoolboys stood In line and Hags at
all schools In the city were at half-mast
today, when the body of James E. Sulli
van, lato secretary of tho Amnteur Ath
letic Union, was taken through the
streets of New York. After services were
held at tho Catholic Church of St.
Aloyslus. the body was taken to Calvary
Comctcry for burial.
The Executive Committee of the A. A.
U. attended tho funeral In a body. Mes
sages of condolence poured In upon Sulli
van's relatives by the hundreds.
MRS. FRANK LESLIE
Publisher, Editor and Author Who
Regained Business Lost by husband.
NEW YORK, Sept. ID. Mrs. Frank
Leslie, publisher, editor and uuthor, died
last night nt her homo at tho Bherman
Squaro Hotel. She had been In falling
health for nbout six weeks. Miss Mar
querito Linton Glentworth the writer,
was with her when she died.
The Baroness de Bazusm, as Mrs. Leslie
preferred to be known, was born In New
Orleans, La., In 1SJ1. She was of an old
French Huguenot family. Her father
gave her a liberal education at his home,
tutoring her principally In French, Span
ish, Italian, German and Latin. At the
age of 13 she began writing for publica
tion, and her work attracted somo atten
tion, notably that of Henry Sartor, who
woa known by his pen name of Frank
Leslie.
Shs married Mr. Leslie, and when ho
died In 1SS0, leaving his estate J300.000 In
debt and his 16 publications In the hands
of trustees, his wife undor the law as
sumed the name of Frank Leslie and
took personal charge of the business.
By her personal management sho suc
ceeded in placing the properties on a
paying basis.
In the middle eighties Mrs. Leslie mar
ried William Wilde, a brother of Oscar
Wilde. She later obtained a divorce from
him.

of the Marlborough-Blenheim.
ATLANTIC CITY. Sept. 19.-JosIah
Whltp, president of Joslah White & Sons
Company, nlso founder and principal
owner of tho Marlborough-Blenheim Ho
tel, died yesterday at his residence, on
Vassur tlquure, here, Ho wus 71 years
old.
Mr. White was one of a band of pioneer
hotel men who early In the SO's Inaug
urated the winter and spring seasons nt
the shore, Atlantic City having been prior
to that tlmo a summer resort solely. Ho
erected the Hotel Luray, which was
desttoyed by fire In 1002. In 1885, with
Ills three sons, he built the Marlborough
and six years later the Blenheim, of
which they have remained owners and
managers ever since.
Mr. White was a Friend and hla an
cestors were prominent members of this
lellgious society In New Jersey und Penn
sylvania. In 1662 Mr. Whito married Mary Klrby
Allen, of Haddonfleld. N. J. Mr. White
and the late Clement A. Grlacom and
Ituae H. Clothier, and7 the three girls
whom they respectively married were
intimate filends and each of these three
couples lived to celebrate their golden
wedding anniversary.
Mr. White is survived by his widow
and six children.

Wife on Way Across Atlantic,
ROME. Sept 19. The steamship Tomaso
dl Savola sailed from Genoa on Thurs
day with 400 passengers, mostly Ameri
cans, Including Mrs. Thomas J. Preston.
Jr. (formerly Mrs. Grover Cleveland) and
party; Mrs. W. II. Blsaell and Howard
Croker and his sisters, who aro taking
the body of their mother to New York
fur burial.
Mrs. Croker was the wife of Richard
Croker, formerly the Tammany Hall
leader In New York. She died recently
In Austria.

Elizabeth Gibbons Lloyd died yesterday
at her homo, 924 Clinton street. She was
the daughter of the late John and Esther
II. Lhjyd.
FUNERAL OF MRS. A. A. CLOUD
The funeral of Mrs. Ada A. Cloud,
widow of the late Albert A. Cloud, was
held this morning. Interment was tn
iurel Hill Cemetery, with the Episcopal
Church service at the grave. Mrs. Cloud
was 73 years old. Sue died last Wed
nesday at Wlldwood, N J. She was) the
daughter of the lato Congressman John
Hickman. She wai horn at West Chester,
but had lived most of her life at New
York city.
DR. MATTHEW C. FARRELL
Dr, Matlhew Comnr Farrell, a dentist,
died yesterday at tho home of his
brother, Bernard W, Farrell, 1829 South
fcSth street, In. his 33d year. Dr. Farrell
was graduated from the Pennsylvania
Dental College six years ago, but for
tho last two yenrs had been too 111 to
pursue his practice. His death came as
tho result of a nervous breakdown that
was first brought on by ovqrstudy when
at college. Ills widow survives.
DR. MAHLON H. DEARY"
ALLENTOWN, Pa., Sept. 19.-Dr. Mali
Ion H. Henry. 74 years old, physician,
lawyer and Civil Wftr veteran, died yes
terday. He served In the 12Sth Pennsyl
vania Volunteers, and was one of the
orators at the dedication of the Pennsyl
vania monument on the battlefield of An
tletnm. For a time, after tho war, he
lived In Missouri. Ho owned considerable
property, and had a beautiful winter
homo In Florida nlmost within a stone
throw of that of William Jennings Bryan.

yesterday. A cripple for years, he slipped

ho never recovered. Ho was elected
Register nnd Recorder hi 1911 on tho
Democratic ticket without opposition. He
was 37 yearn old and leaves a wlfo and
two children.

Caroline Wilt, S9 years old, wlfo of James
Wilt, died after an Illness of 21 hours of
apoplexy. Her husband, a retired hotel
man, who Is In his 97th year, Is tho old
est voter In Lehigh County. On August
23 Mr. and Mrs. Wilt celebrated their 71st
wedding anniversary. She leaves four
children.
