Mylin Esq., solicitor of the Prison, and was approved by the Court. The Grand Jury approved of the report of viewers recommending the erection of a bridge, over the Octoraro creek, on theroad leadin from Valley road to Burtville, near Boon & Harley's mill in Bart twp. The Grand Jury also approved of the re port of viewers, recommending t h e erection of a bridge across Big Chiques Crook at the lino between West Ilempfield and Rapho townships. ' The Court then proceeded to grant licenses to those old tavern stands to which there were no objections made. REPORT ok THE ORAND JURY The Grand Inquest, inquiring for the county of Lancaster, State ot Pennsylvania, at the April sessions for the year 1868, re port that they have passed upon all the bills presented for their consideration amounting to 64, of which number 18 wore Ignored and 36 true bills found. The jury, in accordance with the usual custom, visited the Poor House, Hospital and Prison, and It affords them pleasure to testify to the neatness, cleanliness, good order and discipline prevailing in these in stitutions. It is very evident that Messrs. Splehlman, Steinhauser and Seneenig are faithfully endeavoring to discharge the duties pertaining to their respective office,. It becomes necessary, however, to cell at tention to the fact that the stock of horned cattle at the Poor House is of the moat in 7 different character and discreditable to the county. It is also very apparent that the present barn accommodations at this place are entirely Insufficient for the wants of the farm. The Grand Jury would earnestly recommend the sale of all the land belonging to the Poor Raise farm, lying on the south side of the Conestoga creek; its Isolated condition from the main body of the farm, and the very frequent expense occasioned by the repairs required for the bridge connecting the two tracts, render such sale eminently desirable. At the last court of Quarter Sessions there were 160 prisoners and vagrants confined in the county prison ; at this time there are but 77. A comparisoh of these statistics shows a gratifying decrease in crime, which it af fords the Grand Jury pleasure to mention. To she Honorable Judges of the Court, District Attorney Atlee, Sheriff Froy and ogler officers of the Court, our acknowledg ments are duo for courteous treatment. Norare we disposed to overlook the prompt ness and punctuality of tipstave, Elias Rohrer; his services are also entitled to recognition. All of which we respectfully GEO. WurrsoN, Foreman. RE-OPENING OF ST. MARY'S CHURCH.- In consequence of the disastrous fire, which occurred in St. Mary's Catholic Church in January of 1867, that edifice has boon closed over since. The gable ends of the Church have boon raised, and the roof elevated so as to give a greater height to the ceiling, thus adding much both to the e*tornal and internal ap pearance of the building. An entirely now and most elegant sanctuary has been erect ed, and now main and side altars construct ed. The work on this part of the building is In fine lassie, and the whole Interior is exceeding itttraelive and Imposing, The frescoing is admirably executed, and there ale few more pleasing church Witham In the country.
