DARING ESCAPE OF REBEL OFFI..
CELLS.
BALTIMORE, June 12.
On Wednesday, the steamer Maple Leaf
left Fortress Monroe for Fort Delaware, with
ninety rebel officers. When near Cape Henry
Lighthouse, the rebels took possession of the
boat, sent the captain and crew below, and
steamed forty five miles below the lighthouse,
and sixty-five from Fortress Monroe, and
landed on the Virginia shore, in the boats of
the steamer. Twenty-six refused to go with
them, and the captain of the boat turned back
to the fortress and reported the affair to Gen.
Dix. Among those who escaped was Capt.
Semmes, a son of the captain of the pirate
Alabama. They did no injury to the boat.
HANGING OF REBEL SPIES
MURFREESBORO, June 13
Captain Thompson, of General Rosecrans's
staff, under a flag of truce, delivered the effects
of the two spies bung at Franklin, Tennessee,
to Lieutenant Colonel Webb, of the Fifty-first
Alabama, this evening. One of the party re•
ceiving the flag remarked, " So, you have
hung two of our spies ?" He then added
that one of them, Orton, was his particular
friend, and Inspector of Constructions on
Wheeler's staff; but as Orton was not
entitled to an adjutant, he did not know the
man Peters. He also admitted that the exe
cution was jut t id in accordance with mili

LOST IN THE vitos.—Two young ladies
of Tuckerton were lost in the woods near that
place a short time since. They had taken a
horse and carriage and gone out in the after
noon for a short ride. They penetrated in
sensibly into the forest, which there extends
for many miles, became frightened, and drove
rapidly on the wrong road, in their alarm,
going farther from home. The harness be
came so broken as to be of but little service,
and the horses unmanageable. The citizens
becoming alarmed at their protracted absence,
turned out en masse at dark, and ultimately
found them in the recesses of the forest, six
miles from home, prostrated in body and mind,
and nearly insensible.-11fount Holly t.N. J.)

- /dISBLEIPS BITTERS.
The testimony is every day accumulating that alishier's
Bitters is performing wonders, and its fame is gradually

log certificate, selected from hundreds received weekly. It
speaks for itself:
NMSVILLit, June 6, 1662.
Ma. B. MISHIX,—Sir : About Chrlstmart, my youngest
daughter, a girl of fifteen years of age, was attacked with
paralysis, which confined her to her bed, where she lay
perfectly helpless and suffering the greatest pain. I pro.
cured the attendance of our medical men in the neighbor.
hood, but, in suite of their best efforts, she grew daily
worse and worse. She was so helpless that it was impossi
ble for her to sit up, even when propped. by plllowe, for
when, to ease her, we would raise her up, she would fall
over backwards, or lie on one side or the other, and Indeed
bad no strength or power or control over her motions at
all. On the 26th of last month, by the advice of Henry
Minnich, I came to see you, and. from what you told me,
I concluded to try sour Herb Bitters. I took a bottle oat
home with me. and my daughter commenced taking it.
hbe has used that bottle, and the effect is so greet that I
want to take out some more with me, and I am confident
now that what you told me was perfectly true, and that
my daughter will shortly be entirely recovered. She is
now able to leave her bed, and can sit in a common chair,
and can stand on her feet, without any pain; she can raise
her hands to her head, an di remains out of bed moat of the
day. I am so pleased with the effects of your medicine that
there is nothing I would not give to prrcure it. Yon may
use this as you please, for I think that so good a medicine
should be known everywhere.

UNCASTILII, May 27th, 1883.
B. Nishler—Dear Sir : This is to certify that I have
been suffering with what the doctors call Chronic Dian
rob.% for three mouths, and! suffered so much with pain
and grew so weak, that the doctors had almost despaired
of my getting well, and Indeed I had almost given up MY
self. I have been at the Lancaster Hospital for six months;
I had Ithenmailem when I went there, and was unable to
do anything. One of the inmates of the Hospital give me
three doses of your Bitters, and afterwards I felt much
better, and I have been taking them ever since. and feel as
if lam going to get sound and well. Your Bitters have
proved themselves to be a cure for me, and I am thankful
for it. Ido really think I, could not have lived this long
had I not got the Bitters.; I also had Gravel, which has
troubled me for a long time, of which I feel nothing of any
more. I suppose it must have been the Bitters that took
that away, as it works you say in that way. Indeed the
Bitters have been a God's blessing tome, and have restored
me to pretty good health. Mr. A. Fairer can tell all about
it, as he is well acquainted with my sufferings since I have
been In the Hospital. Respectfully, . .
Pl4l 17. A, May 25th, 1863.
Mr. B. Mulder This is to certify, that I have bad an
attack of the Gravel for about six months, and sometimes
with a good bit of pain ; at last it become so that I had to
rise five or six times in a night on account of my water, so
I concluded there must be something done. I have seen
your Herb Bitters recommended in one of your bills; so I
thought I would give it a trial. I have used two bottles
of it, and I must say that it relieved me entirely of my
pain. Respectfully yours, JNO. SCHOCH.
LANCASTYP. CITY, May 7th, 1803.
Mr. B. Bidder—Sir: I have been subject to inward
weakness and pain In the small of the back tor the lest ten
years, and had given up all hopes of getting better. I was
induced to try your Bitters, and after using it a short time,
I am happy to say I ant almost well, and by using a few
more bottles expect to be as hearty as formerly. I recom•
mend it to those of my sex similarly afflicted.
Respectfully yours, HARRIET QBR.
blorovt Joy, MO 13, 1863.
Mr. B. Mishter My wife having boon afflicted with ex
cruciating pain in her hands end feet, govern' of our most
prominent physicians attended her but could give her little
or no relief. I then bad recourse to !dishier , Bitters; she
took half a bottle, and the pains entirely lett her. I took
the remainder myself; before taking it I was overcome
with drowsiness whenever I would alt down to read or
write, and would fall asleep, but since I took the Bitters,
I feel as if I could "leap over a wall and run through a
troop." CEO. DRUCEENMILLEft.
REAMEITOWIT, May 4th, 1863.
Mr. B.ler—Dear Sir About three years ago there
was a Lump or Swelling came on the side of my neck or
,Jaw, whtch continued to enlarge in size without opening.
About two years ago, I drew It open with a poultice. I
commenced to use your Bitters about three months ago,
which has driven the'swelling all away, and besides has
taken a lamp of bard substance from the opening which
you can have to show to the people. I am this day a sound
man, and feel nothing of it at all; it has left no mark or
trace of it behind, all has gone away.
JOHN LESHER.

B. His/der—Dear Sirs I had pain in my head, side and
back, in connexion with chills and fever, which alarmed
me very much from the fact of my having a very severe
attack of Typhoid Fever, while connected with the Army.
I bought one bottle of your Herb Bitters ' and when I got
home I took two doses of it which relievedMe almost im
mediately. lam taking two doses per day now and feel
as well as ever I did. Not hying a citizen of this place, I
just happened to be here selling Patent Pumps, and heard
your Bitters recommended so highly by different ones, I
concluded to try It, and such are the facts of the benefits I
received by using your Bitters. I am stopping at the
Franklin House, North Queen street, In this city, and will
be glad to testify to the above, to any ono calling at the
aforementioned place, or at Coatesville ' Chester county,
which is my permanent residence. ENOCII DUNLAP.
Litre term. April 20th, 3883.
B. Nishler—Dear Sir This Is to certify that I have been
attending fire in a bake oven for thirty two years which
caused me to lose my, sight for about five years. I have
been using your Bitters, and since I have used them, my
eight Is returning fait. I can now walk without a cane
and see where I go. I was digging garden to day and
could see the worms crawling about in the dug up earth.
Respectfully, HENRY J. ETTER.
The above are but a vary small number of the certificates
received. Any one doubting the genuinenee of any car•
tificate published is requested to call and examine the

PROSPECTUS OF
‘'THE AGE."
A NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC NEWSPAPER,
To be published Daily and Weekly in the City of Phila

"THE AGE" Will advocate the principles and policy of
the Democratic party, and will, therefore, necessarily favor
the restoration of the Union as it was, and defend the
Constitution of the United States, and that of this COM
monwoalth.
It will freely and fairly discuss all legitimate subjects of
newspaper comment, including, of course, and pre,.emi.
nanny at this time, all questions connected with the
existing unhappy condition of our country.
It will fearlessly criticise the public acts of public ser
vants, and defend the legal and constitutional rights of In
dividual citizens of sovereign States, against assaults from
any quarter.
It will seek to awaken the minds of the people to a
proper sante of the actual condition of the Republic—to
present to them, truthfully, the fearful perils in which we
stand as a nation—to exhibit the magnitude of the task
that is before them, if they would check our downwar
prcgrees—and to inspire them with patriotic determination
to apply THE REMEDY for our national ills.
In brief, it will, in all things, aim to be the faithful ex
ponent of Democratic principles, and to render itself
worthy to be an organ of the Democratic party, under
whore auspices our country prospered so long and so well.
The restoration of that party—the party of the Constitu
tion and the Union—to power, in the legislative and execu
tive governmental branches of the States and of the Union,
we believe to be necessary to avert anarchy, and the utter
ruin of the Republic. To contribute to that restoration
will be our highest aim.
The News, Literary, Commercial, and other departments,
will receive due attention, and will be Bo conducted as to
make "Tim AGO" worthy of the support of the general
