McClellan has telegraphed to the gov ernment that he has read -in the newspapers an account of a compact which he is said to have made with Gen. Buckner in regard to the status of Kentucky. He denies, contradicts and repudiates the whole statement to the great satisfaction of the Commanding General and the Administration, whose only knowledge of the pretended oompact was from the news paper statements which Gen. McClellan thus denounces. F. W. S. Colonel. John K. As'in the last Exhibition, one-half the entire space of the building will be allotted to Eng— land and the colonies, and the remainder among the various foreign countries. All the appli— cations for space from England have been sent in, and some idea may be formed of their extent, when it is stated that, if all were granted that is asked, England alone would require a building nearly three times larger' than the entire structure for next year. The immense size of the structure may be learned from the following particulars : The foundations have already consumed 5 000 tons of concrete, which, as the first item, - is pretty fair. On these foundations will be laid nearly 60,000 tons or 1,400,000 cubic feet of brickwork, requiring upwards of 18,000,000 bricks to build it. To 18,000,000 brie no less than 22.000 tons of mortar will be r Eli— site. 10,000 tons of ironwork, viz: bout 7,000 tons of cast and 3,000 tons of wr ught iron, will be used in the entire structur As there are nearly 1,200,000 superficial et of flooring, the same amount of timber as f iron is required, namely, 10,000 tons. The ooring alone consumes 360 miles of plankin seven inches wide, and 270 miles' length, nininches wide, or upwards of 600 miles' length o plank ing/ in all. The actual quantities are , 200,- 000 and 2,000,000 lineal feet of each ;kind.— For the windowsino less than 108 miles' length, or 600,000 feet of slashing will be re aired, to fill in which are required 500 tons of s eeyglass a n d - upwards of 50 tons of putty. he! roots will need 600,000 square feet of felt: and among the minor items are betwee 260 and 300 tons of nails, 600 tons of pain 300 tons of piping, and so on. The cubical entente of the whole structure will be no less than 73,- 000,000 cubic feet. A committee composed of the most distin— guished persons connected with the _Govern— ment of France, and presided over by Prince Napoleon, has been formed for the purpose of carrying out the wishes of the Emperor, who desires that 'no expense should be spared with regard to the French portion of the exhibition, which promises to be a very grnat success.— There is a most cordial desire to co operate with England, and to take cane that France should distinguish herself in the encounter. ;lip the following Chronicle of the eat crop in our certainly such a in Tennessee,— THEY DO NOT DARE. -0110 of the earliest subjects which will engage the *tendon of Congress will be the treason of the Minister to Portugal, and the reason why be is not re calk4 in obedience to the demand of public sentimewl. Wolves are in the habit of falling upon wounded members of the pack and devouring them. Mr. Harvey was the Washington cor respondent of the Tribune, in which!capacity he rendered that paper essential sertice by trans mitting the earliest intelligence. When the Administration decided to evacuate Fort Sum ter he telegraphed the fact to New York and Charleston. When the Administration' backed water and determined not to evacuate Fort Sumter, Harvey again sent the news to New York and Charleston. The Tribune published it to the world—so did. Harvey. If one was guilty of treason, so was the other—but Har vey being a Foreign Minister, it is necessary to make him the victim of the indecision of the Cabinet and to appease the Tribune's thirst for the blood of a traitor. Never before was seen such an aggregate of doughnuts since the world began. The cir cumambient air was redolent of doughnuts.— Every breeze sighed doughnuts—everybody talked of doughnuts. They are delighted with Spalding's Prepared Glue. It brings up no disagreeable associations of sticky glue-pots and stifling odors, but is merely a clear transparent liquid, in a pretty little bottle, with a small accompanying.brush, fit to Stand on the daintiest toilet table In the land, with cologne and Perfumes and China trifles. And so useful it proves, too, if any accident happens to the tan thousand little knick knacks that ladles delight in. No sending to the manu facturer for repairs, at an expense scarcely . leas than would attend the purchase of a new article. A few of the crystal drops, skillfully applied by fair fingers, will set all right. For furniture, for work-boxes, for books, for every thing, it Is a perfect little familj physician 1. The amount of money that one of. these bottles can save In a month, would seem almost incredible, and Ladies rely on their Prepared Glue as a sort of a magician that can effect every thing I And they know, too.
