July 5 ly 2S 1860. 1860 M cCORDIICIVB REAPER. & MOWER. 20,000 SOLD WITHIN THE LAST FIVE YEARS. OR AN AVERAGE OF 4000 A . YEAR, BEING A LAR GER NUMBER THAN IS MANUFACTURED BY ANY OTHER -SINGLE ESTABLISH MENT IN TILE WORLD. THE IMPROVEMENTS FOR 1860, are: let. A more compact frame.—thus decreasing the width of the machine, while increasing its strength ; at the same time allowing a material reduction In weight. 2d. A most important item, a liglder driver and sickle; thus perniitting an increase of motion not practicable in other machines. The wear and tear of -a reaper or mower is occasioned mainly by the weight. and motion of the sickle. The im proved driver and sickle of the " McCormick" will weigh but 91 pounds, while Glom of other machines are from fifty to one hundred per cent. heavier. Every pound thus added to the sickle and driver, when in motion, is just so much wear and tear—not only upon the sickle itself, hut alsofthe driver boxes, crank. and all the journals. It is strain upon the whore machine as scull as horses. The slight indentation cud peculiar cut of the sickle, with the combination of the spear-shtped fingers in stir machine, gives us this advantage ; and it is one of para mount importance to the tamer. As proof or what we state, we ask purchasers to weigh the sickle and driver of other machines. Owing to improvements for 1860, we are enabled to increase the motion of our sickle nearly one. fifth, without danger of breaking or additional power— hence, con do good work even with ifialow team. 3d. A Castor Wheel upon an entirely new principle has been added to the grain side of the machine, wholly relies , ing the horses from pressure in turning, and materially lessening side draught. 4th. A.Lever-shipper for throwing in and out of gear. oth. The machine is now so balanced, that in connection with our patented semi-jointed tongue, the cutting appar. atus is completely and easily thrown over obstructions while in motion, simply by the weight of the driver in his place; thus dispensing with all lovers and complicated arrangements to effect tie same object. This obviates an objection urged against the "McCormick" as a mower, and will be found to work perfectly, without endangering the &mobility of the machine. 6th. New Finger Beam. 7th. New Fingers. Shorter and narrower—thus more penetrating, yet with same angle as heretofore. Bth. The Shield to Spur 'Wheel is attached to the bridle, so that in raising and lowering it moves with the bridle. 9th. Angle Board dispensed with, and replaced by an adjustable iron rod. 10th. New Scraper Board attachment. The foregoing are a part of the many changes for 1860. The whole machine is lightened and reduced in size; yet .having an increased capacity for work. An improved Neck-Yoke and Doubletree is also furnished with each ma. chine. PREMIUM FOR I 6 . In order to increase the already large circulation or tlll3 ErtmES3OCKSK, we publish this month a splendid line engraving of Frith's picture of • Merry-Making in the Olden Time,' which we shall present exclusively to the $3 subscribers to the Magazine for 1860, whether old or new. The subject represents the pastimes of our ancestors, and is eminently of a genial, domestic character. The plate, engraved in England •at an expense of 2000 dollars. is entirely new, measures twenty-five by nineteen and a half inches in lige, contains thirty-nine figures, and is beyond comparison the finest work of the kind ever offered as a preinium in this country. 'The engraving of Frith's picture of Merry-Making in the Olden Time, represents the humors of an English holi day in the county in those good old times when the' men wore cocked-hats and knee-breeches, and the women stays and hoops—a costume not essentially differing from the corset and crinoline of the preient day. Almost in the centre 01 the picture and a little to the back-ground is .a country dance on the green, with a hard-featured fiddler perched on a high seat, and another musician in a tie.wig standing by him, playing with all their might. On the right two bouncing girls are gaily pulling toward the dance a gray-haired man.,.who seems vainly to remonstrate that his dancing days aro over,' while a waggish little child pushes him forward from behind; greatly to the aiiinsement of his spouse, who is still sitting at the teatable, from which be has been dragged. On the left, under a magnifi cent spreading oak, sit the 'squire and his wife, whom a countryman with his hat off is respectfully inviting to take part In the dance. To the left of the 'squire is a young couple on the grass, to whom a gipsy with an infant on her shoulder Is telling their fortune. Over the shoulders of this couple is seen a group engaged In quoit playing, and back of the whole is a landscape bir gentle elopes and copses. The picture has the expression of gayety through. out and' the engraving Is splendidly executed. He has tried it in orer 1100 cases, and nerer failed except in two cases, (both thunder humor.) He has now io hie possession orer two hundred certificates of its' virtue/ all within twenty miles of Boston. Two bottles are warranted to cure a nursing sore mouth One to three bottles will care the worst kind of Pimple/. on the face. Two to three bottles will dear the system of Biles. Two bottles are warranted to cure the worst canker in the month or stomach. Three to five bottles are warranted to cure the worst care of Erysipelas. One or two bottles are warranted to cure all burner the Eyee. Two bottles are warranted to 'cure running of the ears and blotches among the hair. Four to six bottles are warranted to cure corrupt and running ulcers. One bottle will cure scaly eruption of the skin. Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the worst cases of ringworm. Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the most des perate case of rheumatism. Three to four bottles are warranted to ewe the salt rheum. Five to eight bottles will cure the worst case of scrofula A benefit is always experienced from the first-bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted when the above quantity 18 taken. Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of this in the vicinity of Boston. I know the effect of it in every case.— So sure as water will extinguish fire, so sure will this cure humor. I never sold a bottle of it, but that sold another; after a trial it always speaks for Itself. There are two things about this herb that appear surprising; first, that it grows in our pastures, in some places quite plentiful, and yet its value has never bean known until I - discovered it in 1846—second, that it should cure all kinds of humor, In order to give some idea of the sudden rise, and great popularity of the discovery, I will state that in April, 1853. I peddledit and sold about six bottles per day—ln April, 1854, I sold over one thousand bottles per day of It. Some of the wholesale Druggists who have been In the business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the annals of patent medicines was ever like it. There is a universal praise of it from all quarters. In my own practice I always kept it strictly for humors —but since its introduction as a general family medicine, great and wonderful virtues have been found in it that I never suspected. Several cases of epileptic fits—a disease which was always considered incurable, have been cured by a few bottles.- 0, what a mercy if it prove effectual in all cases of that awful malady—there are but few who have seen more of it than I have. I know of seveial cases of Dropsy, all of them aged peo ple, cured by it. For We various diseases of the Liver, Sick Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, pain-in the side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly in diseases of the Kidneys, he., the discovery has done more good than any medicine ever known. No change of diet ever necessary—eat the beet you get and enough of It. DIRECTIONS FOR Um—Adults one table spoonful per day —Children over ten years dessert spoonful. Children from five to eight years tea spoonful. As no directions can be applicable to ail constitutions, take snicient to operate on the bowels twice a day. Manutactured by .
