OPERATE by their powerful influence on the internal -viscera to purify the blood and stimu late it into healthy action. They jremove the obstructions of thestomach, bowelo, liver, and other . organs of. the body, and, by restoring their irregular * action to'ftealth, correct, wherever they exist, such 4 derangements as are the first causes] of disease. * An extensive trial of their virtues, by Professors, Physicians, and Patients, has shown cures of dan* gerous diseases almost beyond belief, were they not substantiated by persons of such exalted position and character as to forbid the suspicion of untruth. ■ Their certificates are published in my American Almanac, which the Agents below] named are pleased to furnish free to all inquiring. Annexed we give Directions for th jir use in the complaints which they have been found to cure. For CoRTiVBNEfIS. Take one or .two Pills, or - such.quantity as to gently move the bowels. Cos "tiveness is frequently tne aggravating cause of Pil.es,..and the cure of one complaint is the cure of both. No person can'feel well while under a costive habit of body. Hence it should be,'as it . can be, promptly relieved. j For Dyspepsia, which is sometimes the canse of Costiveness, and always uncomfortable, take mild doses from one to four to stimulate the stomach and liver into healthy action. They will do it, and the heartburn, bodykum, and soulburn of dyspepsia will rapidly disappear. When it has gone, don’t forget what curea you. For a Fot'L Stomach, or Morbid Inaction of the Boxcels, which produces general depression of the spirits and bad-health, take from four; to eight Pills *at first, and smaller doses afterwards, iuntil activity and strength is restored to the system. = Kou Nkrvouskesh, Sick Headache, Nausea., Pain in the Stomach, Back, or Side, take from four to eight pills on going to bed. If they do not oper ate sufficiently, take more the next day until they do. These 'complaints will be swept'out from the sj-stem. Don’t wear these and their kindred dis orders because your stomach is foul. Fon Sckopula, Erysipelas, and\ all Disease* ■of the Skin, take the Pills freely and frequently, to keep the bowels open. The eruptions will gener ally soon begin to diminish and disappear. Many dreadful ulcers and sores have been healed up by the purging and purifying effect of Pills, and some disgusting diseases which seemed to saturate the whole system have completely yielded to their influence, leaving the sufferer in perfect health Patients! your duty to society forbids that vou should parade yourself around the world covered with pimples, blotches, ulcers, sores, and all or anv of the unclean diseases of the skin, because your lysccin wants cleansing. To Pvuift the Bi.oon, they are the best medi cine CTer discovered. They should be taken freely and frequently, and the impurities which sow the tfeeda of incurable diseases will be swept out of the system like chaff before the wind. Bv this property they do a* much good in preventing sickness as by the remarkable cures which they are making every where. Liver Complaint, Jaundice, and all Bilious Affections, arise from some derangement either torpidity, congestion, or obstructions of the Liver. Torpidity and congestion vitiate the bile and render it unfit for digestion. This is disastrous to the health, and the constitution is frequently under mined by no other cause. Indigestion is the symp tom. Obstruction of the duct which empties the bile into the stomach causes the bile to overflow into the blood. This produces Jaundice, with a long and dangerous train of evils. Coativcness, or alternately costiveness and diarrhma, prevails. Feverish symptoms, languor, low spirits, weariness, restlessness, and melancholy, with sometimes in ability to sleep, and sometimes great drowsiness; sometimes there is severe pain in the side ; the skin and the white of the eyes become a greenish yellow ; the stomach acid; the bowels sore to the touchy the whole system irritable, with a tendency to fever, which may turn to bilious fever, bilious colicj bilious diarrhcea, dysentery, &c. A medium dose of three or'fnur Pills taken at night, followed by two or three in the morning, and repeated a few days, will remove the cause of all these troubles. It is wicked to suffer such pains when you cau cure them for 2o cents. Rheumatism, Gout, and all Inflammatory Fe vers, are rapidly cured by the purifying effects of these Pills upon the blond and the stimulus which they afford to the'vital principal of Life. For these and nil kindred complaints they should betaken in mild doses, to move the bowels gently, but freely. As a Dinner: Pill, this is both agreeable and useful. No Pill can be made more pleasant to take, and certainly none has oeen made more effectual to the purpose for which a dinner pill is employed. PREPARED JJY DR. J. C. A VIJK A CO.. July 22 ly 27 Tlie Greatest Medical Discovery of tire Age. Dr. KENNEDY, of Roxbury has discovered, in one of our common pasture weeds, a remedy that cures EVERY KIND OP HUMOR, from the worst Scrofula down to a common pimple. He has tried it in over 1100 cases, and never failed except in two cases, (both thunder humor.) lie has now in his possession over two hundred certificates of its virtue, all wlthlp twenty miles of Boston. Two bottles are warranted to cure a nursing sore mouth. One to three bottles will cure the worst kind of Pimples on the lace. Two to three bottles will clear the system of Biles. Two bottles a™ warranted to cure the worst canker in the mouth or stomach. Three to five bottles are warranted to cure the worst case ef Erysipelas. One to two bottles are warranted to cure all humor in the Eyes. Two bottles are warranted to cure running of the ears and blotches among the hair. Fonr to six bottles are warranted to cure corrupt and running ulcers. \\ One bottle will cure scaly corruption of the skin. Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the worst ease of ringworm. Two to three oottles are warranted to cure the most des perate case of rheumatism. Three to four bottles are warranted to cure the salt rheum. Five to eight bottles will cure the worst case of scrofula. A benefit is always experienced from the first bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted when the above quantity is taken. Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of this in the vicinity of Boston. 1 know the effect of it in every case.— Sosnre s as water will extinguish fire, so sure will this •ure humor. I never sold a bottle of it, but that sold an other; after a trial it always speak for itself. There are two things about .this herb that appear to me surprising; first that it grows in our pastures, in some places quite pleptifuL and yet its value has never been known until I discovered it in IS4&—second that it should cure all kinds of humor. In order to give some idea of the sudden rise, and great popularity of the discovery. I will state that in April, 1853, J peddled it and sold .about six bottles j>er day—ln April, 1854, I sold over one thousand bottles per day of it Some of the wholesale Druggirts who have been in the business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the annals of patent medicines was ever like it. There is a universal praise of it from all quarters. In my own practice I always kept it strictly for humors —but since its introduction as a general family medicine great and wonderful virtues have been found in it that I never suspected. Several cases of epileptic fits—a disease which was al ways considered incurable, have been cured by a few bot tles. 0, what a mercy if it prove effectual in all cases of that awful malady—there are but few who have seen mor of it than I have. I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of them’ aged peo ple cured by it. For the various diseases of the Liver, Sick Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain in the side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly in diseases of the Kidneys, it c., the discovery has done more good than any medicine ever known. No change of diet ever necessary—eat the best you get and enough of it. Directions For Use.—Adults one table spoonful per day •—Children over ten years dessert spoonful. Children from five to eight years, tea spoonful. As no direc tions-can be applicable tn all constitutions, take sufficient to operate on the bowels twice a day. The cause of all auto and blllinus diseases is the atmospheric poison called Miasma or Malaria. Neutralize this poison by its Natural Autidote, and all disease caused by it disap pears at once. Rhodes’ Fever aud Ague Cure is this Anti dote to Malaria. and moreover it is a perfectly harmless medicine. Tho certificate of the celebrated chemist, J.iR. Chilton, of New York, to this effect, is attached to every bottle; therefore if it does no good it can do no harm. This is more than can be said of Quinine, Arsenic, orany tonic in existence, as their use is ruinous to the constitu tion and brings on Dumb Ague, which never allows a per son to feel perfectly well for a single moment. In illustra tion of these truths I annex some extracts Irom a letter just received trom a Physician : Georgetown, Ohio, March 18,1850. JAS. A. RHODES, Esq.—Dear Sir: Yours of 2d iust. is at band. The Cure arrived late last year and the difficulty in getting any one to try it was greatly increased from tho the fact that a remedy had been introduced which was growing in favor with the public, as being better than using Quinine, —not knowing I presume that tho remedy they used to escape taking Quinine, contained the Drug Itself! This remedy, (known as ‘‘Smith’s Tonic,”) would inyari bly break an Ague, but it did not cure it, as it would often return with renewed vigor. This one circumstance I deem ed in your favor, if I could institute a test comparison be tween it and your cure. The following is the result: Three persons took your “Cure,” all of which were coses of“Quotidianlntermittent Fever,” of mnay weeks standing They had tried Quioiue, and other remedies, occasionally missing a chill, but it was, (as in all such cases,) slowly wearing them out, and layingthe foundation for other and severer maladies. I did succeed in effecting a radical cure of all three of these cases with your remedy, and they have not had a chill since. In all three of these cases the “Smith’s Tonic” had been used, and would, as before sta ted, break the chill, but after a period or two had olapsed would return. 1 think there will be no difficulty now in giving to your “Cure” the advantage ground of any other remedy now in use hero, it., Ac. WILLIAM BUCKNER, M. D. Rhode’s Fever and Ague Cure, or Antidote to Malaria, the only harmless remedy in existence, is equally certain as a preventive, as a “jOure.” Take it when you feel the chills coming, aud you will never have a single one. JOHN GYGEB A CQ-, feb 244 m 6 Bttktffc CONSUMPTION AND ALL DISEASES OF TIUS LUNGS AND THROAT are positively cura ble by Inhalation, 1 which conveys the remedies to the cavitie* in the lung* through the air passages, and coming in dir-rct contact with the disease, neutralizes the tubercu lar matter, allays the rough, causes a free and easy expec toration, heals the lungs, purifies the blood, imparts re newal vitality to the nervous system, giving that, tone and energy indispensable for the restoration ot health. To br- able.to state confidently that Consumption is curable by inba'uti-n,is to me a source of unalloyed pleasure. It is as much under the control nf medical treatment as any other formidable disease; ninety out of every hundred . cast* can be cured In the first stages, and fifty per cent in ..jthe second; but in the third stage It Is impossible to save 'more than five per cent, for the iungsare so cut Tip by the disease as to bid defiance to medical skDL Even, however, in the las' stages, inhalation affords extraordinary relief to the sufferingnttending this fearful scourge which annu ally destroys ninety-five thousand persons in the United States alone; and a correct calculation shows that of the present population of the earth, eighty millions are des tined to fill the Consumptive's grave. Truly the quiver of death has no arrow so fetal as Con sumption. In all ages it has been the great enemy of lile, for it spares neither age nor sex, but sweeps off alike the brave, the beautiful, the graceful, and the gifted. By the help ol that Supreme Being, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift, I am enabled to offer to the afflicted a per manent and speedy cure in Consumption. The first cause of tubercles is from impure blood, and the immediate effect, produced by their depositiou in the lungs, is to prevent the free admission of air iuto the air cells, which causes a weak ened vitality through the entire system. Then surely it is more rational to expect greater good from medicines enter ing the cavities of the lungs than from those administered through the stomach; the patient will always find the lungs free and the breathing easy after inhaling remedies. True,, inhalation is a local remedy, nevertheless it acts constitutionally, and with more power and certainty than remedies administered by the stomach. To prove the pow erful and direct influence of this mode of administration, chloroform inhaled will entirely destroy sensibility in a few minutes, paralyzing the entire nervous system, so that a limb may be amputated without the slightest pain; in haling the ordinary burning gas will destroy life in a few hours. The Inhalation of ammonia will ronse the system when feinting or apparently dead. The odor of many of the medicines is perceptible in the skin a few minutes after being inhaled, and may be immediately detected in the blood. A convincing proof of the constitutional effects of Inhalation, is the feet that sickness is always prodneed by breathing foul air. Is not this positive evidence that proper remedies, carefully prepared and judiciously administered through the longs, should produce the most happy results ? During eighteen years’ practice, many thousands, suffering from diseases of the lungs and throat, have been under my care, and I hare effected many remarkable cures, even after the snfferers had been pronounced 1q the last stages, which fully satisfies me that consumption is uo longer a fetal disease. My treatment of consumption is original, and founded on long experience and a thorough investiga tion. My perfect scquaintance.with the natnre of tuber cles, Ac., enables me to diatinghish, readily, the various forms of disease that simulate consumption, and apply the proper remedies, rarely being mistaken even in a single case, This familiarity in connection with certain patho logical and microscopic discoveries, enables me to relieve the lungs from the effects of contracted cheats; to enlarge the chest, purify the blood, impart to it renewed vitality, giving energy and tone to the entire system. HOLMES’ IMPROVED SEAM- • LESS WHALEBONE SKIRTS.—We take pleasure in again introducing our Improved Seamless Skirt, as be ing the most acceptable and reliable article in market: we are aware that many new styles called improvements are before the public, such as India Rubber. Outta Percha, Rattan. Ac., all of which we have if called for—but cannot recommend them, as we have experimented with and tested them all—(most of them two years since,) submitting them to the jxxdgment of competent ladies to decide upon their merits, aud have found them from actual use, to be in all important respects, decidedly inferior to our properly pre pared Whalebone, which has been in use the past two years, and for which has been expressed from all parts of the country entire satisfaction; and we have the more positive evidence from our own large retail trade, amount ing to many dozen per day. Therefore we confidently recommend our Skirts to be the least objectionable now In use; possessing many advantages found in no othrr Shirt, the most important of which i* our serins of elastic Orrds at the bottom, made from the only material that can be used, that will recover its place when pressed out of shape, will not roll or curl, is not affected by heat or cold, and.can bo washed without injury. Those cords at the bottom, in stead ofbones, which are exceedingly awkward and incon venient, with our own prepared bones above and a fabric manufactured by ourselveß expressly for our goods.' in our estimation and the estimation of thousands who have used them, produces a Skirt and the only Skirt equally adapted to the parlor, the street, and the crowd, giving a proper, graceful and elegant form to a Ladies ’ dress, light, plia ble, easily adjusted and in every respect a complete article. I have restored to health over sev enteen thousand patients, who were suffering under the worst forms of all the above mentioned diseases, which guarantees me in promising a perfect and most speedy cure. Secret diseases are the greatest enemies to health and happiness, as they are the first cause of consumption scrofula, Ac., and should be a terror to all nations on earth, 1 for the disease is becoming so common, and treatment so little understood, that a permanent cure is scarcely ever effected, as a majority of the cases fall into the hands of Incompetent persons, who not only fail to cure the malady, but ruin the constitution with corrosive sublimate—a dangerous poison, a preparation of mercury—which, with the remains of disease in the system, produces many of the above named affections, which finally terminate in con sumption, aud frequently a rapid one; but should it not cause death speedily, and the victim to disease marries, the disease is then conveyed from the parent to the children, causing them to come into the world with scrofula, affec tions of the skin, eyes, throat, 4c, and again terminates in consumption, and consigns its victim to an untimely grave, between the ages of six months and thirty-five years.— Self-abuse is another formidable enemy to health : it de stroys the nervous system, rapidly wasting away the ener gies of life, causing mental derangement, preventing a proper development of the system, and disqualifying its victim for marriage, society business, and all earthly hap piness.
