HAVE YOU TRIED IT.—This important question should be asked every invalid who is suffering from pulmonary troubles in this fickle climate. Have you tried WILBOWS COMPOUND OF COD LIVER OIL AND LIME? It will not nauseate like the plain Oil, but is on the contrary, pleasant to the taste; moreover the Phosphate of Lime is, in this combination, a most remarkable aid to the healing properties of the pure Cod Liver Oil, as the following cer tificates (selected from a host of like great acknowledg ments) will amply show. No person should neglect for a single hour a cough, or any affection of the lungs, lest the most serious consequences follow. Dr. Wl'hoes prepara tion is both simple, and sure in all ordinary cases, and has performed some surprising cures in decided consump tion, where other medical aid has failed:— Dr. Wither:—During nearly the whole of the past win ter, I had suffered seriously with a cough, which so irrita ted my lungs, that my physician frankly admitted his fear of consumption's following this trouble as the Spring weather.set in. Medicine seemed to afford me little relief until I tried your preparation of Cod Liver Oil and Lime. The effect I am forced by facts to admit, was almost magi cal, and I have the pleasure of saying at this writing, (May 2d, 155:3) I am entirely free from any pulmonary trouble. With thanks to you for your valuable discovery, I cordi ally recommend it to those who are thus afflicted: MARTIN C. lIIIRD, Chamber street, Boston. • • " N. DIIIHLENNERG, No. 8 South Quen ot. July 8 2m 26 The Greatest. Medical Discovery of the Age. Dr. KENNEDY, of Roxbury has discovered, in one of out common pasture weeds, a remedy that earns EVERY KIND OF HUMOR, from the worst Scrofula down to a common pimple. He he. tried it in over 1100 cases, and never failed except in two eases, (both thunder humor.) He has now in his possession over two hundred certificates of its virtue, all within twenty miles of Boston. Two bottles an warranted to care a nursing sore mouth. One to three bottles will cure the worst kind of Pimples on the face. Two to three bottles will clear the systemof Biles. Two bottles are warranted to cure the worst canker in the mouth or stomach. Three to five bottles are warranted to cure the worst ease of Erysipelas. One to two bottles are warranted to cure all humor in the Byes. Two bottles are warranted to cure running of the ears and blotches among the hair. Four to six bottles are warranted to cure corrupt and running ulcers. One bottle will cure scaly corruption of the akin. Twoto three bottles are warranted to cure the worst case of ringworm:l. Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the most des perate case of rheumatism. Three to four bottles are warranted to cure the east rheum. Five to eight bottles will cure the worst cam of scrofula. A benefit is always experienced from the first bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted when the above quantity is taken. Reader, I peddled over a thousandtbottles of this in the vicinity of Boston. I know the effect of it in every case.— So sure as water will extinguish fire, so sure will this cure humor. I never sold a bottle of it, but that sold an other; after a trial It always speak for itself. There are two things about this herb that appear to me surprising; first that it grows in our pastures, in some places quite plentiful, and yet Its value has never been known until I discovered It in 184.6--second that it should cure all kinds of humor. In order to give some Idea of the sudden rise, and great popularity of the discovery. I will state that in April, 1853, I peddled it and sold about sin bottles per day.—ln April, 1854, I sold over one thousand bottlefi per day of it! Some of the wholesale Druggirte who have been in the business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the annals of patent medicines was ever like it. There is a universal praise of it from all quarters. In my own practice I always kept it strictly for humors —but since its introduction as a general family medicine great and wonderful virtues have been found in it that I never suspected. Several cases of epileptic tits—a disease which was al ways considered incurable, have been cured by a few bot tles. 0, what a mercy if it prove effectual in all cases of that awful malady—there are but few who have seen mor of it than I have. I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of them aged pee. pie cured by It. For the various diseases of the Liver, Sick Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain in the side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly in diseases of the Kidneys, An., the discovery has done more good than any medicine ever known. No change of diet ever necessary -eat the best you get and enough of it. • Dmacrioxs FOR UBR—Adults one table spoonful per day —Children over ten years dessert spoonful. Long. april 24 1y.1.4 "VARA' LANDS FOR SALE.—'PILE ILLINOIS X CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY is now prepared to sell over TWO MILLION 01 ACRES OF FARMING LANDS, In Tracts of 40 ACRES and upwards, ou long credits and at low rates of Interest. These lands were grunted by the Government, to aid In the construction of this Railroad, and include some of the richest and most tertile Prairies In the State, interspersed here and there with magnificent groves of oak and other timber. The Road extends from Chicago, on the North East, to Cairo at the South, and from thence to Galena and Dunleith, in the North West extreme of the State, and as all the lands lie within fifteen miles on each side of this Road, ready and cheap means are afforded by it for trans porting the products of the lands to any of those points mid from thence to Eastern and Southern mallets. Moreover, the rapid growth of flourishing towns and villages along the line, and the great increase in population by immigra tion, etc., afford a substantial and growing home demand for farm priiduce. The soil is a dark, rich mould, from one to five feet in depth, is gently rolling and peculiarly fitted fur grazing cattle and sheep, or the cultivation of wheat, Indian corn, etc. Economy in cultivating and great productiveness are the well known characteristics of Illinois land. Trees are not to be cut down, stumps grubbed, or stones picked off, as is generally the case in cultivating new land in the older States. The first crop of Indian corn, planted ou the newly broken sod, usually repays the cost of plowing and fencing. Wheat sown on the new turned soil is sure to yield very large profits. A man with a plow and two yoke of oxen will break one and a half to two acres per day. Contracts can be made for breaking, ready for corn or wheat, at from ,r 2 to' ,:o0 per acre. By judicious management, the laud may be plowed and fenced the first, and under a high setts of cultivation the second year. Corn, grain, cattle, etc., will be forwarded at reasonable rates to Chicago, fur the Eastern market, sad to Cairo for the Southern. The larger yield on the cheap lands of Illi nois over the high priced lands in the Eastern and Middle States, is known to be much more than sufficient to pay the difference of transportation to the Eastern market. Bituminous coal is mined at several points along Gm Road, and is a cheap and desirable fuel. It can be delivered at several points along the Road at 51,50 to 4,00 per ton. Wood can be had at the same rates per cord. Those who think of settling in lowa or Minnesota, should bear in mind, that lands there, of any value, along the wa ter courses and for many miles inland, have been disposed of,—that for those located in the interior, there are no con veniences for transporting the produce to market, Railroads not having been introduced there. That to send the pro duce of these lands, one or two hundred miles by wag&l to market, would cost much more than the expense of culti vating them; and hence, Government lands thus satiated. at $1,15 per acre, are not so good investments as the land of this company at the prices fixed. The same remarks hold good in relation to the lands in Kansas and Nebraska, for although vacant lands may be found nearer the water courses, the distance to market ie far greater, and every hundred miles the produce of those lands are carried either in wagons, or Interrupted scaler communications, increases the expenses of transportation, which must be borne by the settlers, in the reduced price of their products; and to that extent precisely are The incomes front their farms, and of course on their investments, an nually and every year reduced. The great fertility of the lands now offered fur sale by this company, and their consequent yield over those of the Eas tern and Middle States, is much more than sufficient to pay the difference in the cost of transportation, especially in view of the facilities furnished by the Road, and utlrra with which it connects, the operations of which are not in terrupted by the low water of summer, or the frost uf win ter. PRICE AND TERMS OF PAILMENT.—The price will va ry from $5 to 25, according to location, etc. Contracts for Deeds may be made during the year, 1856, stipulating the purchase money to be paid in five annual instalments. The first to become due in two years from the date of contract. and the others annually thereafter. Thu lost payment will become due at the end of the sixth year treat the date of the contract. • Interest will be charged at only three per cent. per an num. As a security to the performance of the contract, the first two years' interest must be paid in advance, and it must be understood that at least one tenth of the land pur chased shall yearly be brought under cultivation. Twenty per cent: from the credit price will be deducted for cash.— The Company's construction bonds will be received as cash. Ready framed Farm Buildings, which can be set up in a few days, can be obtained from responsible persons. They will be 12 feet by 20 feet; divided into one living and three bed rooms, and will cost complete set up on ground chosen anywhere along the Road, $l5O in cash, exclusive of transportation. Larger buildings may be contracted for at proportionate rates. The Company will forward all the ma terials for such buildings over their road promptly. Special arrangements with dealers can be made to simply those purchasing the Company's lands ,with fencing mate rials, agricultural tools, and an outfit of provisions in any quantity, at the lowest wholesale prices. It is believed that the price, long credit, and low rate of interest, charged for these lands, will enable a man with o few hundred dollars in cash and ordinary industry, to make himself independent before all the purchase money becomes due. In the mean time, the rapid settlement of the coun try will probably have increased their value four or five fold. When required an experieenced person will accompany ap plicants, to give information and aid in selecting lands. Circulars, containing numerous instances of successful farming, signed by respectable and well known Ilirmers liv ing in the rjeighborhood of the Railroad lands, throughout the State—also the cost of fencing, price of cattle, expense of harvesting, threshing, etc., by contract—or any other in formation—will be cheerfully given, on application, either personally or by letter, In English, French. or German, ad dressed to JOIIN WILSON. They remove the obstructions of the stomachybowels, liver, and other organs of the body, and, by restoring their irregular action to health, correct, wherever they exist, such derangements as are the first causes of disease. An extensive trial of their virtues, by Professors, Physicians, and Patients, has shown cures of dan gerous diseases almost beyond belief, were they not substantiated by persons of such exalted position and character as to forbid the suspicion of untruth. Their certificates are published in my American Almanac, which the Agents below named are pleased to furnish free to all inquiring. Annexed we give Directions for their use in the complaints which they have been found to cure. FOR COSTIVENESS.— Take one or two Pills, or such quantity as to gently move the bowels. Cos tiveness is frequently the aggravating cause of PILES, and the cure of one complaint is the cure of both. No person can feel well while under a costive habit of body. Hence it should be, as it can be, promptly relieved. Foss DYSPEPSIA, which is sometimes the cause of Costiveness, and always uncomfortable, take mild doses from one to four to stimulate the stomach and liver into healthy action. They will do it, and the heartburn, bodyburn, and sou/burn of dyspepsia will rapidly disappear. When it has gone, don't forget what cured. you. For a Four. STOMACH, or Morbid Inaction ff the Botcels, which produces general depression CH the spirits and bad health, take from four to eight Pills at first, and smaller doses afterwards, until activity and strength is restored to thesystem. FOR NERVOUSNESS, SICK lI2ADACHE, NAUSEA, Pain in the Stomach, Back, or Side, take from four to eight pills on going to bed. If they do not oper ate sufficiently, take more the next day until they do. These complaints will be swept out from the system. Don't wear these and their kindred dis orders because your stomach is foul. Fon SCROFULA, ERYSIPELAS, and all Diseases of the Skin, take the Pills freely and frequently, to keep the bowels open. The eruptions will gener ally soon begin to diminish and disappear. Many dreadful ulcers and sores have been healed up by the purging and purifying effect of these Pills, and some disgusting diseases which seemed to saturate the whole system have completely yielded to their influence, leaving the sufferer in perfect health Patients! your duty td society forbids that you should parade yourself around the world covered with pimples, blotches, ulcers, sores, and all or any of the unclean diseases of the skin, because your system wants cleansing. To PURIFY THE BLOOD, they are the best medi cine ever discovered. They should be taken freely and frequently, and the impurities which sow the seeds of incurable diseases will be swept out of the system like chaff before the wind. By this property they do as much good in preventing sickness as by the remarkable cures which they are making every where. LIVER COMPLAINT, JAUNDICE, and all Bilious Affections, arise from some derangement— either torpidity, congestion, or obstructions of the Liver. Torpidity and congestion vitiate the bile and render it unfit for digestion. This is disastrous to the health, and the constitution is frequently under mined by no other cause. Indigestion is the symp tom. Obstruction of the duct which empties the bile into the stomach causes the bile to overflow into the blood. This produces Jaundice, with a long and dangerous train of evils. Costiveness, or alternately costiveness and diarrhoea, prevails. Feverish symptoms, languor, low spirits, weariness, restlessness, and melancholy, with sometimes in ability to sleep, and sometimes great drowsiness; sometimes there is severe pairs in the side; the skin and the white of the eyes become a greenish yellow ; the stomach acid; the bowels sore to the touch; the whole system irritable, with a tendency to fever, which may turn to bilious fever, bilious colic, bilious diarrhoea, dysentery, &c. A medium dose of three or four Pills taken at night, followed by two or three in the morning, and repeated a few days, will remove the cause of alfthese troubles. It is wicked to suffer such pains when you can cure them for 25 cents. RHEUMATISM, Gotrr, and - all Inflammattrry Fe vers, are rapidly cured by the purifying effects of these Pills upon the blood and the stimulus which they afford to the vital principal of Life. For these and all kindred complaints they should be taken in mild doses, to move the bowels gently, but freely. As a DINNER PILL, this is both agreeable and useful. No Pill can be made more pleasant to take, and certainly none has oeen made more effectual to the purpose for which a dinner pill is employed. PREPARED BY DR. J. C. STEIN3IAN & CO., july 29 3m 28 Wept King street, Lan. lIIONICS WON'T DO I—They never did du more 1 than give temporary-relief and they never will. It is because they don't touch the cause of the disease. The cause of all ague and billions diseases is the atmospheric poison called Miasma or Malaria. Neutralize this poison by its Natural Antidote, and all disease caused by It disap pears at once. Rhodes' Fever and Ague Cure is this Anti dote to Malaria, and moreover it is a perfectly harmless medicine. The certificate of the celebrated chemist, J. It. Chilton, of New York, to this effect, is attached to every bottle; therefore if it does no good it can do nu harm. This is more than can be said of Quinine ' Arsenic, or any tonic iu existence, as their um, is ruinous to the constitu ton and brings on Dumb Ague, which never allows a per son to feel perfectly well for a single moment. In illustra tion of these truths I annex some extracts trout a letter just received from a Physician Gzear, firowz, Ohio, March 18, 1658. JAS. A. KLIODES, Esq.—Dear Sir: Yours of Sd inst. is at hand. The Cure arrived late last year and the difficulty in getting any one to try it was greatly increased from the the fact that a remedy had been introduced which was growing in favor with the public s as being better than using Quinine,—not knowing I presume that the remedy they used to escape taking Quinine, contained the Drug Itself! This remedy, (known as "Smith's Tonie,"l would Drail bralk an Ague, but it did not cure It, as it would often return with renewed vigor. 'This one circumstance rdeern ed in your favor, if 1 could institute a test comparison be tween it and your cure. The following is the result: Throe persons took your "Cure," all of which were cases of"Quotidianlntermittent Fever," of mnayweeks standing They had tried Quinine, and other remedies, occasionally missing a chill, but it was, (as in all such .cases,) slowly wearing them out, and laying the foundation for other and severer maladies. I did succeed in effecting a radical cure of all three of these cases with your remedy, and they have not had a chill since. lu all three of these cases the "Smith's Tonic" had been used, and would, as before sta. ted:lbreak the chill, but after a period or two had elapsed would return. I think thero will be no difficulty now in giving to your "Cure" the advantage grotaid of any other remedy now in use here, k., kc. WILLIAM BUCKNER, M. D. Rhode's Fever and Ague Cure, or Antidote to Malaria, the only harmless remedy in existence, is equally certain as a preventive, as a "Cure." Take it when you feel the chills coming, and you will never have a single one. 2 .TAS. A. ERODES, Praridepoe, IL I. For Bale by 0. A. Heinitab, Jacob King, Dr. B.
