DEMOCRATIC REVIEW.—The August nember is
embellished with a portrait of GIL' WILLIAM R.
Kisco, the Democratic candidate for the Vice Pres
idency. The reading matter—barring its continu
ed assaults on Fogydom—is excellent, and no. a
little of it sprightly and spirited. We can forgive
the one fault, for the pleasure we experience in
reading the generality
,of its articles, which, upon
the whole, are able, interesting and instructive.
[Er GRAHAM'S MAGAZINE, for October, is an ex
cellent number, and fully sustains the previous high
character of the work. The embellishments are
superb, and the reading matter cannot be excelled.
BOSTON, Sept. 15.—The returns of the election
in Vermont show that there has been no choice for
Governor by the people. The election will fo to
the Legislature, when of course the .Whig cal di
date, Erastus Fairbanks, will be chosen. There is
a heavy Whig majority in both branches of the
Legislature. Two Whig and one Democratic Con
gressmen are elected.
