For the Intelltgrater.. CoLumia, Pa. March 4th, 1852 CAP r. Svinsason:—ln perusing the columns of the Bedford Gazette, of the 26th ult., my attention was called to the leading editorial, wherein the gallant Colonel steps aside from his abuse of the Governor's appointments to make a side thrust at the " Mexican Soldiers." Why is Is it a disgrace to have served as an Americari Soldier in the Mexican War? Is it wrong for one of these Mexican Soldiers to be a candidate foe honor or emoluments in opposition to a Militia COlonel ? Or is it, as I suspect, that the Colonel is irlbad humor because the Governor appointed a Mexican Soldier to the honorable, if not lucrative, post, of Adjutant General of the Commonwealth, in preference to himself who was the head of the Pennsylvania Militia for years of peace, and an obscure citizen in time of war? At all events, the attack is in bad taste—it being, I believe, the very first direct or indirect attack by a Democratic journal on Mexican Soldiers, and I _sincerely hope it may be the last. OLD SOLDIER. An Important Deciston Chief Justice BLACK has delivered the opinion of the Supreme Court in the case of the United States Bank vs. the State of Painsylvania, affirMing the judgment of the Court below, and awarding to the Commonwealth about $1,300,000, being; the amount due, with interest, of the bonus of sloo, ooo, per year which the bank agreed to pay for the extensive privileges granted by the charter. The opinion is ehort, clear, and explicit, and worthy the source from wbich it emanates. No_matcrial change in the Markets, since ouri.ast. DIARRIAG ES On Tuesday 2il inst., by Rev. M. Twonder of the age, nature's own prodoc .l.. tions. These Paints differ from all others :n the market; they are not clays; they require little Oil, flow easily, and cover with a heavier body than white lead. They neitha crack nor peel, and dry readily, making an ENAMEL" OF STONE. COLORS.—We have seen different colors, viz: three Browns, two Chocolates, Blast and Yellow, and by combination tnake every variety and shade of color. BODY.—These Paints are superior in body (or covering property) to any yet discovered, and pound for pound will cover double the surface of white lead, zinc, or other metalic Paints. IRON.—To Iron they furnish a perfect protection against rust, for they contain metal, which like lead acts destructively on the iron; in fact this Paint makes iron doubly valuable for building pur- poses. BRICK WORE.—They give to hous'e walls a much heavier coating than other paints, and if sanding is required, nothing holds so firmly or fin ishes do well with it. OLD ROOFS.—Give us a roof, ever so old and leaky, and Silver's Mineral Paints will make it cheaply new and more enduring than it ever was. SHIPS using this extraordinary Mineral as we prepare it for them, will be proof against the ac tion of hot suns, worms and salt water. CAPITALISTS and BUILDERS are invited to make strict scrutiny into the merits of these Paints. They will find a very great reduction 'night be made in the cost of Painting. These. Paints are pu•ely mineral; all clays and other impurities are washed out in preparing them for the market.— They cost but half the price of white lead, and the same quantity will cover twice the surface, and last six times as long which in tact reduces the price to one-twelfth. Climate has no effect on this Faint, and is equally valuable in the cold Canadas or our sunny Florida. DIRECTIONS.—Use Linseed Oil, mix as thick as you can, andl use as other paints. These paints need but little dryer, and for priming and second coating in all house work they will be found far cheaper and more durable than lead. Dealers and consumers can procure this Paint wholesale and retail of FRENCH & RICHARDS, N. IN. Corner 10th and Market Streets, Phila'd _ .
