THE highly sanitory, balsamic, and tonic prope r ties of this Vinegar render it far superior to Cologne Water for the ordinary purposes of the toHet and the bath, surpassing the latter in its per fume and cheapness, and in its greater efficacy for the promotion of cleanliness and health. This article has been known and extensively used in Europe for very many years, where it has, to a considerable extent, superseded the use of Cologne Water. The subscriber feels assured that it needs only to be made known in this country to ensure its equally general adoption. It has obtained the approval of several eminent physicians of this city, to whose notice it has been submitted. It prevents and removes pimples, and asperity ol the skin ; it refreshes and whitens the skin, rendering it soft and smooth. It corrects the clammy and bitter taste of the mouth, imparting a fresh and pleasant breath. It cleanses and whitens the teeth, and hardens the gums. Friction with this Vinegar promotes perspiration and assuage rheumatic pains. It allays headache by application to the temples. It is effectual in removing inflam mation of the eyelids, and in strengthening the eyes. Applied to a burn it prevents soreness. It nossesses many other valuable qualities, which are trewuietf at large in the printed wrappers accom panying each bottle. The subscriber having, during a recent visit to Paris, obtained the original recipe for this invalua ble 'preparation, now offers it to the American public, with a perfect confidence hat it will be found in every respect equal to the article prepared by the original inventor. THIS new and valuable Medicine, now used by the medical profession with such astonishing efficacy in the cure of Pulmonary Consumption, Scrofula, Chronic Rheumatism, Gout, General De bility. Complaints ol the Kidneys, &c., &c., is pre pared from the liver of the Cod Fish for medicinal, use, expressly for our sales. Extract from the London Medical Journal. “ C. J. B. Williams, M. D., F. R. S., Professor of Vledicine in University College, London, Consult ing Physician to the Hospital for Consumption, &c., says: I have prescribed the Oil in above four hun dred cases of tuberculous disease of the Lungs, in different stages, which have been under mv care the last two years and a half. In the large number of cases, 206 out of 234, its use was followed by marked and unequivocal improvement, varying in degree in different cases, from a temporary retarda tion of the progress of the disease and a mitigation of distressing symptoms, up to a more or less com plete restoration to apparent health. “ The effect of the Cod Liver Oil in most of these cases was very remarkable. Iwen in a few days the cough was mitigated, the expectoration dimin ished in quantity and opacity, the night sweats ceased, the pulse became slower, and of better volume, and the appetite, flesh and strength were gradually Improved. “ In • onciusion, I repeat that the pure fresh oil from the Liver of the Cod is more beneficial in the treatment of Pulmonary Consumption than any gent, medicinal, diatetic or regimenal, that has yet been employed.” As we have made arrangements to procure the Cod Liver Oil , fresh from head quarters, it can now be haJ chi ’n'cally pure by the single bottle 3 or in boxes of one each. Its wonderful efficacy has induced numerous spurious imitations. As its success depends en tirely upon its purity, too much care cannot be used in procuring if genuine. Every bottle having on it our written signature , may be depended upon as genuine. Pamphlets containing an analysis of the Oil, witli notices ol it from Medical Journals, will be sont to those who address us free of postage. JOHN C. READ AND BE CONVINCED. Charles Robinson. Eeq., Easton, Md.. m a let ter to Dr. Jackson, January 9, 1850, said — “My wife and myself have received more bene* fit from your medicine than any other we have ever tuken for the Dyspepsia and Liver Disease." The Tenth Legi»n. published at Woodstock, Va , January 10, 1850, said - A GREAT MEDICINE. VVe have uniformly retrained from recommend ing to the public any of the various Patent Medi cines of the day, unless thoroughly convinced ot 'heir value. Am>mg ihose we consider wonhy ol notice is the German Litters, invented by Doctor Hoofland. and prepared by Dr. Jackson, in Phila delphia. One instance in particular, in which the superior virtues of this medicine have been tested, has falletv under our During the last summer, a son of Mr. Ahm. Crabill, of ibis coun ty, was very seriously afflicted wiih Liver Com plaint, and atier trying in vain various remedies, he purchased a bottle of the Bitters, and after using it, was so much relieved of his distressing ‘malady, that he procured another bottle, and is re stored entirely 10 health. READ FURTHER A FEW FACTS. From the Weldon Herald, published at Weldon, N. C-, January 24, 1850, which said— PATENT MEDICINES. It is very seldom that we make any allusion to Patent Medicines, either approving or otherwise. Unfortunately lor ihe country, andjlor honest and conscientious inventors and venders of these med icines, die land is becoming flooded with quack preparations, ih it are made alone for profit and are fit nut even for the dogs. In this state of things it is hard io tell which are, and which are not worth having. If a person gets an indifferent med icine the first time he purchases, he is very apt io condemn the whole of them and buy no more, and inventors must only blame those of their number, [who ignorantly combine plain medicines together lor the purposed making money,] for the ill suc cess which attends .he efforts ol the deserving. We believe Dr. C. IM. Jackson’s Hoofland's German Bitters to be a most excellent medicine, and lhat should be highly popular in these days of Temperance; for they are altogether Veg etable in their comp silion, without one drop of Alcoholic Spirits in them. This medicine is inno cent, bm strengthening in its effects, and richly deserving of an unbounded popularity, which, when it becomes known, it will, no doubt, fully enjoy. Judge M. M Noah said, in his Weekly Messen ger, January 6, 1850 Dr. Hoofland's German Bitters. Here is a preparation which the lending presses in the Union appear to be unanimous in recommending, and the reason is obvious. It is made after a prescription furnished by one of the most celebrated physicians of modern times-the late Dr. Christopher Wil helm -Hoofiand, professor to the University of Je na, private physician to the King of Prussia, and one of the greatesj medical writers Germany has ever produced. He was emphatically the enemy of humbug, and therefore a medicine of which h.e was 'he inventor and endorser may be confidently relied on. He specially recommended it in Liver Complaint, Dyspepsia, Debility, Vertigo, Acidity of the sumach, Constipation, and all complaints arising from a disordered condition of the stomach, the liver and the intestines. Nine Philadelphia papers express their conviction of its excellence, and several of the editors speak of its effects from their own individual experience. Unde - these cir cumstances, we feel warranted, not only in calling the attention of our readers to the present proprie tor’s [Dr. C« tM. Jackson’s] preparation, but in recommending the article to ihe afflicted. MORE EVIDENCE. The Philadelphia Saturday Gazette , the best family newspaper published in the United States. Sands: I have been afflicted with a se vere pain in my side, occasioned by a diseased liver, tor the last twenty years, suffering at times what language cannot convey ; but since taking your Sarsaparilla, I have been greatly relieved, so much so that 1 have been able to attend to my business, and preach occasionally, for the last eighteen mo. I wholly discarded all other medicine, and thor oughly tried the Sarsaparilla, which I can reconi* mend in irmh and sincerity to all those who are in any way afflicted with any species ol scrofulous complaints. There have been some remarkable cures effected by its use in this vicinity. Mrs. I. Shaw, by the use of six bottles, was restored to better health than she had before enjoyed for ten years; and W. Stevens, who had been severely afflicted with erysipelas, was entirely cured by the use of a few bottles. Yours truly, VVM. GALUSHA. SCROFULOUS AFFECTION of the EYES.
