A Contrast. "■ Next/to General Cass, James Bucii.otax was perhaps the most prominent candidate for the Pres* dential nomination, by the Baltimore Convention and .never will the members of that convention forget the magnanimous and patriotic course pur sued by the Pennsylvania delegation, and the friends of Mr. Buchanan, when it was definitely ascertained he could not receive the number of votes requisite to ensure his nomination. His conduct since that time has been in striking contrast with that pursued : by Martin Van Buren. The acts of one prove him : ■to be a pure patriot, an incorruptible Democrat, i and an honest man, while the acts of the other ! exhibit him in the light of a selfish politician, a : reckless and atraitor to the Democratic ' party. —Buffalo Courier. j Challenging a Jjjet.—An 'lrish officer, not very conversant in law terms, was lately-tried for an alleged assault.
