The following figures show the number of tens of coal consumed in the school buildings for the school term ending June 30: Maner street, 4 rooms, 2Stens Hock Heck land street, 4, 31 j Seuth Prince street, 4, 16; West Walnut street, 4, M; West James street, 4, 25 j Ann street, 4, f i0 ; New street, 4, 30; Kast Iemon street, 12, 80; Chestnut and Prince atroet, 4, 30 ; African, I, fi; Seuth Duke street, old buildings, 00; Seuth Mill, berry street, old buildings, 60 ; high school building 45; West Chestnut street, new system, 0-1. These 01 tens were consumed since the first of January. At this rate It would re quire 120 tens during the school term of each year. This system of heating is en tirely new. It requires time and experi ence te reduce it te about one-half, say 60 tens. There Is no room te reduce this quantity of coal used, and at thn same time te have the rooms comfortably boated. Wbere the same system Is in use in ether cities pea or bituminous coal is med, and thocemmltteo favor the use of pea coal. Mr. Wills Is expected te give the Janitor proper instructions, and explicit orders hew te use it se as te reduce the quantity and at the same tlme te heat the room properly. The committee also reported that the Rockland street school yard Is tee small, and that 00 feel of ground adjoining can be bought at f 10 per feel. Ilenjamln Champneya, a well known and highly respected cltUen, died suddenly at his residence Ne. 37 Kast Orange street, late en Thursday afternoon. He had com plained for a few days of a pain in the region of the heart, but nothing serious was apprehended. He was about the heuse as usual en Thursday and died lu a few minutes after an attack of heart disease. Doceasod was a native of Lancaster, and was born un June 29, 1828. His rather was ene of the promlneht men in the common wealth In his day, having boenjudgeof the Lancaster courts in 1S3U, state senator In 1842 and attorney general of the common wealth, by appoltituient of Governer Shunk. The subject of this obituary notice chese business for an occupation and in 1819 was appointed te a clerkship in the Lancaster County National bank. He remained in this Institution, being advanced from tlme te time until be became a toller, He held that position lu 1880, when he retired. Since then he has net been lu active business. Mr. Chain pneys was de voted te books and thoroughly familiar with the best of literature. A elished gentleman and uni formly courteous iu demeanor he was highly esteemed by these who knew him, and although falling sight and a sensitive disposition made him something of a re cluse, his erect familiar figure uisslng along the street will he missed by many. He leaves te survive him two sisters, Mrs. Klizabeth, wife of Win. Aug. Altne, Miss Annie and one brother, Kdwurd Champney'H. His funeral took place this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The farmers are complaining or a want of hands te get their harvest away, ami lu some places are offering as much as $2 er day for help. A Child Hun Over. This morning a Utile child of Lewis Walker, of Ne. 211 North Mulberry street, attempted te cress the street iu front of Jaguew's bakery wagon. It fell iu front of theaulmal, but he stepped very care fully ever the child and did net touch it with his hoofs. The wheels struck the little one, however, cutting and bruising It quite badly about the head, face and leg. COMJMIIIA'8 BIO FIItH. The Flint Milt In That horeuah Burned On Thursday Night. At an early hour en Thursday evening, the flint mill In Columbia, which was owned by 1-'. S. Illetz, and operated by a company, was destroyed by fire. The build ing was of brick and frame, and was 00 by I20 feet in size. The flames made great headway, ami It was Impossible te check them until It was entirely de stroyed. The firemen did Reed work in saving adjoining property, however. Hbu msn's Urge flour mill and several dwell ing beuses were en fire at times, but the flames were extinguished before any great damage was done. The Acme oil works are iu the same neighborhood, but they were net In dsnger at any time, as the wind was net blowing lu the direction. The mill was running when the fire broke out, and spread se rapidly that It was Impossible te turn off the machinery. Above the rearing of the flames could be beard the rumbling nolse of the machinery, and as the frame work fell away it could be seen working. The flint mill had been doing an exten sive business and they were kept se busy Oiling orders that they were obliged te work both night and day at times. The less Is estimated at $20,000, and the Insur ance will only cover It partially. The fire was caused by the machinery becoming heated. The building was Insured for $2,000. Policies for $.1,000 expired en July 2d and were net renewed. The company operating the flint mill have an Insurance of $8,000. The buildings aud contents are totally destroyed, nothing being left but the walls of the first story. Henry Seiple fell down a forty-feet em bankment while running te the fire, and cut a terrible gash lu his bead. He is able te be about tills morning.
