this city was held recently te consider the
action of Wm. Butler, the colored appointee
te tbe pest of turnkey at the station house
by Mayer Clark, who accepted the same
contrary te expectation of the colored
people and resigned afterwards.

questioned In reforence te his course of

the committee retired, prepared and re
ported the following resolutions as thelr
sentiments and the opinion of tbe colored

recently elected mayor, In consideration of

defeating competent colored men for the
