Four or five weeks age a young man of genteel appearanee stepped Inte the shop ei Philip Seacrlst, shoemaker, Na 102 North Prlnee atreet, and asked permission te leave a package there for a few days, aa he was going te Philadelphia and did net care te cany It with bltn. The young man waa el medium height, well dressed, were a plug hat and a rather light overcoat of a slightly greamtsh tint Mr. Sescrlst readily took eharge of the package, which waa wrapped up In brown paper and ad dressed James W. Matlsck, Fert Werth, Texas." He did net ask the man his name, aa he expected te aee him again In a few daya ; but when the days lengthened Inte weeks, Mr. Seacrlst'a curiosity became aroused, and be began te be alarmed at the prolonged absence of the young stranger. He resolved te open the package, although tome of his friends suggested It might con tain dynamite. THRU HUNDRED rHOTOOUAril!'. Oa removing the brown paper cover an ordinary pasteboard box waa disclosed, and en taking the lid from the box nearly three hundred photographs of all torts and slzts were disclosed. There were hlty or mere cabinet slrwl photographs ; a greater number of carte devlalste photos, and a still greater number et " tintypes" of all sorts and sites some of the larger ones being bent double 2 as te make them small enough te be packed into the paste-beard box. By far the greatest number of the cabinet and card pictures bear the Imprint of Pittsburg and Allegheny City photographers, but there are some that were taken In Chicago, Phila delphia, Richmond and Norfolk, Va, and several in Lancaster. It is Impossible te tell where the tintypes and old am bru types and daguerreotypes were taken. In the package were a large number of en velopes en which is printed In capital letters : Stanpaiid Copying Ce., Pittsburh, I'a , and below this : Name : Town : Directions ; and at the bottom of the en velope agent A number of these envelopes contained photographs, and the above blanks were filled up and the name of the agent or his initials wrlttsn at the bottom. The name el the agent eftenest used is H. C Bewers, or, H. C. B. On ether envelopes the agent's name la written K. U. Duller, though the handwriting, which is very bid and in pen cil, appears te be the same. SWINDLING HIS CL'HTOMr.R Frem the above statement It may be read ily inferred that the owner of the package baa been canvassing extensively In the name of the Standard Copying company, and awlndllng his customers In this and ether cities, net only falling te copy the pictures placed in his care but carrying oil the origi nals, many of which are no doubt likenesses of dead or absent relatives or friends, and therefore dearly prised. We append the names and address en a few of the envelopes te enable friends te re cover the pictures enclosed in them : Mr. S. Heward, 213 Arch alley, (cabinet photo of Mr. Heward.) Mrs. (nsme illegible) 313 Arch slley, (vig nette of lady taken by Cummingr.) Mrs. Steinhlser, 39 Plum street, (old gent, full length.) Mrs. Heffman, (residence written Illeg ible. ) Mrs. J. Mr. Kircbuer, 410 East Orange ; (photo of little boy). There may be a number of ether Lancaster pictures in the collection, but If se they are net legibly marked. There are two old fashioned daguerreetype cases, one of them containing the pictures of a middle-aged lady and a j our ij lady ; the ether contains a picture of a dea I woman with bla"k dress and open white lace besom, with the address " lt-2, ltl'.ti t." A package rf fifty or mere siiail tintypes is addressed te "Mrs. Gay, 71 Lake street, directions, as it is." A small photo of a very pretty boy, some ten years of sge, bears tlie imprint et Raid Bres., 81 High street, Belfast. A cabinet photo of gent, lady and two small children, bears the address " Mrs. Bunn, 203 Fourth street " A vignette of a gentleman is addressed " Mr. David 1,311, 18th street" A photo of a little Rlrt Ukrn by J. A. Hurst is addressed te " Mrs. Wiuguber, 1,MX) Ridge ave." A pretty little child taken baro-.'eoted bears the Imprint of tbe " New Yerk gallery, Richmond, Va. " A cabinet photo of a young lady taken by Applegate, Philadelphia, Is endorsed II. C. I Bewers, agent The foregoing list contains only a few of tbe pictures found In tbe package left at Mr, Seacrlst'a. It Is hoped tbe publication may lead te the recovery by tbe owners net only of these named but of many etheis as yet net identified, and possibly te tbe arrest and con viction of tbe swindler who secrutlly robbed them of their pictures and tbelr money.
