A party of Columbians spent a very enjoyable day at Wild Cat yesterday. This place is becoming a farerite spot for picnics te visit. The It. & C. Railroad will run excursion trains te Landisville te-morrow, Sunday, te enable persons te visit the eamp-meet- ing new being held there; The eleventh pienie of the Shawnee fire company will be held in Hebe's weeds en August 18th. The affair premises te be a success. Dr. Rohrer's two horse team, of Hount Heunt ville, while standing in front of Spering's jewelery store, became frightened at some unknown cause and kicked with sneh violence that the shaft was broken. The Mt. Zion A. M. E. church will con tinue the campmeeting at Shirk's Greve, te-morrow, Sunday. A geed time in religious matters is expected by the man agement, as they have made great prepa rations for the event. Mr. J. W. Stauffer while supei intending the tearing down of part of the house lately purchased by him en Second street, narrowly escaped being struck by the falling wall. Company C left this morning for the annual encampment at Williamsport, tak ing their entire company of 56 men, rank and file. They were joined at Columbia by the Lancaster company, who are a ver y fine looking set of men. Church Wttera. There will be np services held in the Presbyterian church en Sunday en the ac count of repairs new going en there. Rev. Mr. Qrewley of Brainbridge, Pa., will occupy the pulpit of the M.E. church in the place of Rev. R. W. Humphriss who is at Ocean Orevc. Rev J. H. Funk is visiting in Maryland a nd in cemeqnence the U. B. church will h ave closed doers. The Second street Lutheran church will be open both morning and evening. Trie pastor. Rev. W. P. Evans, will officiate at both times. Rev. Jacksen, of the Church of Ged, is attending the campmeeting at Laudie ville. Kicked by a Herse. While Samuel Seifreid and Ben, Clem, while performing their necessary work at the stable of Samuel Filbert & Sen, they were kicked by a horse causing painful wounds but net serious. Seifreid is able te attend te his work but the boy will necessarily be unable te de anything for several days. Colored -Meu Arrested. Night Watchman M. Dysinger detected two colored men aeting very suspiciously last night at Jehn Marten's grocery store en Third street. He arrested the men, but could find nothing proving them guilty of an attempt at robbery, and was compelled te release them. Personal Matters. Miss Ella Pierce has returned home from Urbana, Ohie. Mr. Geerge W. Ryeu, of 1'ettsville, is visiting relatives in Columbia. Mr. A. M. Reese left te day for Reading, where he will commence his duties as salesman for a Bosten party. The river is lower at present than at any time this summer. Mr Frederick Jehns, late of the firm of Gramm & Ce., of Ironville, has entered tLe service of Mr. W. May, the dry goods merchant. At 6:30 p. in., List, eveuing a large and interesting prayer meeting was held in the chapel ; it was conducted by Elder GrU singer, of Goldssbeio', Pa. At the regular evening services held at 7:45 p. m., Elder S. W. Nail.ef Elizabeth town, preached ; his text Was from Joshu-i iv, 24; theme: "Memerial of Gilgal " Elder Nail preached a powerful sermon, replete with geed thoughts. After the sermon Prof. Palm and his choir practised again. Saturday Morning. Early this morning prayer meeting was held In the tabernacle and was led by Brether MeWilliams, of Harrisburg. It was very largely attend id. Among the new arrivals this morning are Elder Jehn Shindle, a native of Lan caster, but new of Womolsderf, Berks county, the family of Mrs. Beetner, Lan caster, and Elder W. P. Winbigler. At 10:30 p. m., Rev. Hughes, of New Helland, preached, his text being, Math, xii., 30. The congregation was large and paid the best attention te the speaker. Saturday Afternoon AX 1:30 p. m:, a children's meeting was held and was con ducted by D. W. Spencer, of Newville. The meeting was largely attended and ad dresses were delivered by quite a number of Sunday school workers. The music, as usual, was very fine, and the singing of the httle ones attracted much attention. At3p m. Elder J. M. Grissinger, of Gouldsboro, preached. His text was found in Ephesians, v, 17 ; theme: "The Su preme Rule of Right." The congregation was very large and the sermon produced a marked effect. The following is the pregramme for te morrow, Junday : At 10:30 a. m. Rev. Dr. S. V, D. Jacksen will preach, and at 1:30 p. in. the singing of 100 voices under the direction of Prof. Palm will take place. At 3;80 p. m. Rev. Dr. J. B. Lockwood will preach, and 7:45 p. m. Rev. Dr. D. A. L. Laverty will deliver a sermon. Everybody has prepared for the visitors te the grounds te morrow. Mr. Henry Shubert is en the ground and will spend his Sabbath there. Sunday Tralnp. Beth railroads will run special trains te the Landisville camptmeeting te morrow. They will leave the Pennslvania depot at, 8:45 and 9:50 a. m. 1:55, 8:15 and 6:30 p. m. leaving Landisville te return at 9:20 a. m. 12:10, 2:30, 0:00 and 7:00 p. m. The Reading trains will leave Ring street at 8:25, 10:10 a m. and 2:00 p. m. and Landisville at 12 m. 4:45 and 7rC0 p. m. The fair for the round trip ea bath reads will ba twenty five cents. Geerge Gerlitzski and Peter Rete were heard before Alderman McConemy in the charge of trespassing en the Rockland street property of Dr. Henry Carpenter, and breaking down trees, &e. They are committed in default of bail for trial at court. Yeung Gerlitski was also committed te answer the charge of malicious mischief, in breaking the deer of the station hense, from which he recently made his escape. Te be Keballt. Daniel MeLaughlan, the builder, will put a force of men at work at once and the structure will be completed before cold weather sets in. This morning the unassigned infantry company of this city'left in special cars at 6:30 for Williamsport, te attend the encampment of the national guard. They turned out about r 50 men, and marched from their armory en Prince street te the depot and presented a handseme appear ance in their new uniforms. Tbe oil excitement continues unabated. It is given out that the best grade of petro leum is here in abundance. Old Pennsyl vania oil men are taking te the country and lands are being bought at fabulous prices. Thousands of acres are being leased and options taken for thousands of acres mere. Many tracts have been pur chased at from $50 te $100 that a month age could hare been bought for $20 te 40. New Yerk, Aug. 11. Superintendent Humstone, of the Western Union com pany reports that a number of wires were cut last night en the various routes lead ing from this city. He says that very little inconvenience was caussd as business had been well cleared np when the trouble oc curred en the wires. The strikers seem te be still Arm in their position. They emphatically deny any connection whatever with the cutting of wires reported by the Western Union com pany. Shortly be fere midnight last night three men named Owen Derris, Jehn Kerwis and James Cannen were walking en the Balti more & Ohie railroad track near Demmler station, and in stepping aside te allow a freight train te pass, they were ground under the wheels of an express train coming in en opposite directions. Derris and Kerwis were instantly killed, their bodies being mangled. Cannen who was mutilated beyond recognition lived seven hours, but died this morning. 0 Business te be Resumed . Forty coal cars of a train en the New Jersey Central railroad were thrown from the track at the Phillipsburg. N. J., depot this morn ing.
