Fer the Istcixieexckb.
I een er gein' toward tlie weed,
In tbe early mernln'.
With tne dow-drepa at 'r leet,
All the grass aderln'.
An' I thought e all tbe dew-drop".
She was surely brightest,
An' e' all tbe mernln' songs,
Hcr'n tbe sweetest, lightest.
Grace was In each step she took.
Beauty hlned around 'er.
An tbe breeze went seltcr by.
Jest because 11 found 'er ;
An' the basket In 'cr hand,
Swlngln' at each motion,
Was a thing ler j ealeu jy,
I've a kind e' notion.
Oir 1 went an' get my gun,
" Thought 1M sheet a equli '1."
Se I told the lelks at home
Ne'er told 'em 'twas a girl
That I went a buntln atter.
Somewhere plckin' berries.
With a voice like robins glngin'
O'er 'cr lips e' cherries. .
Purty seen I get a glimpse.
Through the bushes' tangle.
Scon "er hand flit 'meng the leaves
Te the berries' dangle.
Then 1 seitly picked my steps
Till I come up nearer.
Hardly drawin in a breath
JTearln' 1 would skeer 'er.
At 'cr back I scen a brier,
Coax at'er dress te linger;
An' I seen a cruel thorn.
Prick 'cr precleu i linger ;
Seen 'er put it te 'er mouth,
Charm It with 'er kisses,
An' 1 thought she wasted 'cm
Such a crop e' blisses.
Then the heard me take a step,
Give a scream se lrlghtcncd,
Turneu as pa'e as lilies are,
Then as roses brightened ;
Dropped 'er basket lit 'cr leet.
All the berries splllin',
Leekin 's it she'd sell hcrselt
Fer a halt a shllllu'.
Frem 'er head she lest 'er hat
Shew in' curls all straggled.
An 'er eyes tell dewnwarJ quick.
Te 'er dress all draggled.
All the charms old nature gives.
Never one had missed 'or.
An' she looked se worried 11 ke.
That 1 up an' kissed 'er !

The steamer Arizona, of the Ouien line,

One physique, about G feet in height and
built in proportion. Ou leaving the vessel
he was surrounded by the passengers, who
had been wen by his genial and affable
manners during the voyage, and who were
desirieus te pay their respects te him en
parting with such a pleasant companion.
He said te a reporter of the Eveniny

te Paris, where I was present at the death
bed of my dear old friend, Mr. Jehn Ryan,
and administered the last sacrament of tbe
chureh te him. Frem Paris I went te
Londen and embarked en the Arizona.
My voyage was remarkably pleasant. I go
from here te the Brunswick and thence te
the church of the St. Francis Xavier, in
West Sixteenth street. I leave in a short
time by the Pennsylvania railroad for the
home of Mrs. T. B. Baldwin, at Edge water
Park, Burlington county, N. J., where I
shall rest for two week. Then I shall
proceed te Newport te visit my acquaint
ances there and prepare my pregramme
for a lecturing tour. It is sixteen years
since I was here before."
After resting at the Hetel Brunswick
afti r his arrival, he called upon Cardinal
McCleskey and Archbishop Cerrigan at
neon and had a brief interview with each.
He left New Yerk, at 4 p m. for Burling
tOD, N. J., where be will make a short
visit te some frieuds. During his stay
he proposes te lecture in some of the
principal cities en secular and religious
questions. Among ether things he will
lecture en art, painting, travel, education,
and Catholicism and ether subjects. One
of the principal objects of his visit is te
study American institutions and observe
their lnlluence upon the growth and de
velopment of the Reman Catholic religion
He will travel extensively thoueheut the
West, going probably te San Francisce,
and during his journeying he intends te
carefully study the American educational
system of which he says he has a high
opinion. He will preach frequently.
