The Held Mwlmmer'H Fate tTulJy 'EsrabllMird The body of Captain Webb, the famous English swimmer, who lest his life en the afternoon of the 24th iust whilst attempt iujj te swim through the whirlpool rapids, was found floating in the river near Law Law ten, four miles belew the head of the rapids, at half past ten o'clock Saturday forenoon. It was first discovered by 11. W. Turner a laborer employed nc;ir the liver bank, who, in company with Mr. 1J. Ribinsen, took it te a h:na!l bait house en the American shore, near by, where it was at once identified as that of the brave captain. The body is but little disfigured, and had still en the red silk trunks worn by the captain when he made the fatal plunge. His right hip is considerably abraded and tbere are several black and blue spots en the head and shoulders, giving evidence of his having baen bruised while the b'oed was still in circulation. At the inquest a verdict of " found drowned" was rendered. During the examination of the body a ragged cut was discovered en top of the head. The cut was about three inches in length and was opened sufficiently te es pose the skull. It had the appearance of being cut by a rock or ether haid rough Bubstance, and is suppoecri te have been done at the entrance te the whirlpool. where the rocks in places project above the surface of the watcr, anl wlieie the current is wildest. This wound was considered sufficient in itself te eause death, and it is thought that he sank immediately after receiving it. Lecal physicians urge that a thorough examination is of the greatest impeitance te determine whether the captain had the life crushed out of him by the weight of the water, whether he was drowned or whether he lest his life by diving and striking ou a jiggei stony, iutlictiug the wound en his head. It is generally con ceded that the force of the waters crushed out his life, though doctors upholding ether theories are found in plenty. .rOKKIOM niAl'TKKs.
