FEIDAT EVENING, JUNE 15, 1888. FlVB MONTHS OK IT. Ilcniucrailc AdiuluUira Uene. ju lias Vrbat Democrat " in Pittsburgh Times. Pennsylvania Las been ee long Republi can that it i3 difficult for men te under stand bow a permanent change can take place. Old time politicians of the Repub lican fiide still imagine that when the momentary disturbances ever the division of the spoils in their party have passed away, an appeal te the war feelimr, or te the se-called " business interests will recall their old majority te the polls. They say' it is all evereven new. Ihey point te independent leaders in the Legis lature, coeperatiug in seme of the basest nwindles of Stalwartism, and wallewmg again with their late antagonists in the miroef partisanship, and they profess te believe that this means the icconciliatieu of outraged voters also. It is difficult te tell whether they are themselves deceived emie only trying te deceive the world. They will, at all events, awake te a very different reality after the next election. The Democratic party is the party of the people. Whenever it is true te itself, it is as much the party of Iho people te-day as it was when Jeffersen led it te the overthrew of the monecrats, or Jack Jack eon marshalled it te the battle with the monopolies. It would give a fair and equal chance te all men and all classes in the race of life, aud it would net allow the government te take the earnings of one aud cive them te another. This is Democracy its fundamental principles. Federalism, ou the contrary, is paternal ism, class legislation, the enrichment el some at the expense of all. ltieganls the power of taxation as less u means of raising rovenue than a means of taking property from these who create or cam it by their labor and giving it te these who eDjey the favor of government, or rather of the party n hich happens te ad minister the government. llctice the Federalist or Federalist Republican puty is, ever was, and ever must bi, the paity of monepo'y. of riugs, of bosses, oxtravagauce aud high taxes. When these two parties go before the people in their true colors, there cau be but one result the success of the Democracy is cci tain. Itmut live, bemuse when it dies the 10 publican institutions, which it was found ed te defend, must perish with it. New let us sea wherein tue Democratic state administration has failed te nieaune up te the fundamental principles of De raecracy. Has it known a bes '.' Has it been controlled by rings ? Net a whisper of scandal has thus far been heaul. Them is net a man within tin; wide bordctsef this great commonwealth who docs net balieve in the pergenal intugiiry of the governor, and of his principal suberdi nates. Net a job has escaped his veto, net a suggestion of coriuptien has ever been heard within the puvinclH et the executive departments. Very different is all this from the LeaoraiitLauniinistr.i..iens which piecedcd it, with the daik (inures of the Cameren?, the Kcmblcs. tiie Quays, ai d the various chieftains of v.u ions lings, in the immeliatj bickgreund. And the policy, as distinguished from the recic personal iutegiify and pecuniary honesty of the administration, has been all that was premised, and all that was dcsiicd. In iuauguial and message the governor has vigoreutly assailed the bleed sucking men -pelies and tsemeudnus or perate peweis which have heietofetc bid defiance te the laws of the common wealth. He pushed bravely and persist ently onward towards the liberation of trade and labor from the oppsc-siveand capricious exactions of the curving emu panics, aud the equalization of the bin dens of taxation. This is Democracy ; it is the living and active principle. And in the Legislature the parry has responded wi'heut hesitation, If it has net accomp lished all that it set out te de in a single season it has accomplished mere than was evr done in the state in the same period of time, and that under difficulties of the roe3t. serious nature. It has passed a Fu-e pipe bi.l, aud civen freedom te one of the greatest interests of the stat It has paESSil an anli-disciimina.ie!i bill, and begun aieferm which will cud only wh-n the railroads am brought into subjection te the constitution, and every citizen hhall enjey his equal rights up ;:i tin: highways of the state. If the people of PtMiusvIvaui ide net.MH tain the party which has given them the Pattisonadniinistiatien, then they de net desire honest, pure. Democratic govern ment, but piefi-r iin-.? monopolies, bosses, and personal con up! ion, and the stmnc!; for hotter things may a. well be foregone. But they will sustain ir. TJiey will have some months te reflect bafore the next election. They will conclude that the ic maining depaitraents of government will be better managed if committed te men iu full sympathy with the 10 form governor. The charm of Republican invincibility i broken. It will never be ie-teied iu thi age. The Independent luulei.s may go back te the heuse of bo'nlae ; bin the Independent voters have broken out and it will be a marvel if they de net stay out. Ilonesty the lies'- Policy.
