The people of the libtle village of Hunts ville, m Penn township, Cumberland county, were horrified Friday morning by tbo'infermation that Mrs. Martin Douglas, and' her three children were lying dead in their house, with then- threats cut from ear te car. Martiu Douglas is a young laboring man and works at Pine Greve furnace, probably five miles or se from his home. His custom has been te go te his work en Sunday evenings, work all the week and returu te his family en Satur days. His children were all small, the eldest being five years and the youngest but six months old. They and their mother were the only occupants of the house, but as Mrs. Douglas' parents lived near and her mother was frequently back and forth it wa? thought entirely safe for the hus band te remain away all the week. Seme months age, however, the family's physician thought he noticed symptoms of insanity in Mrs.yDeuglas and se informed the wemau's husband, and also her par ents, but they- saw nothing wrong in the woman's conduct and paid little heed te what the doctor said. Thursday evening Mrs. Douglas' mother was te sce her, re maining until about 9 o'clock, the children baviug been put te bed before she left. She saw nothing in her daughter's notions te causa any suspicion that she was net in her richt mind or that it was uet entirely safe toleave her alene with her little chil dreu. Friday morning, no one appearing outside the Duuglas heuse for se long the neighbors became suspicious that there was something wrong and Mrs. Douglas' mother went te inquire. Upen eutering the heuse a most horrible sight met lier gaze. There lay the three small children in the bed where she had Kceu them put te tSieir slumbers the ovon evon oven ing before, but their threats were cut and they weie dead. On the lloer lay her daughter, the mother of the three lifeless children, with her threat cut and gashed in a lri;;htful manner, and near her lay the razor wills which the bloody work was done. The most plausible theory is that the mother in an overpowering lit of insanity committed the allecking deed, theugb some persons aie half inclined te think some one eKe might have done it. Justice of the Peace Null held an inquest and a vculict was rendered that the mother had killed the children and then takeu her own i:i. The sad afftir has cast a gloe m ever the whole, community.
