Hew glorious the storm and hew splendid the setting of the sun ! We de net remember .ever te have seen the like en our round glebe. The scene opened in the west with a whole horizon full of a golden interpeeetratintr lustre which colored the foliage and brightened every object into its own dyes. The colors grew deeper and richer, until the gelden lustre was transfused into a storm oleud, full of finest lightning, which leaped.in dazzling zigzags all ever and around the" eity. The wind arose with fury, the slender shrubs and giant trees made obeisance te its maj esty. Seme even snapped before its force. The strawberry beds and grass plats "tnrned up their whites" te see Zephyrus march by. As the rain came and the peels and the ratters harried away, thunder reared grandly and the fire bells caught the excitement and rang with hearty chorus. The south and east received the copious showers, and the west all at once brightened up in a long, polished belt of azure, worthy of a Sicilian sky. " Presently a ckmd appeared in the axure belt in the form of a castellated city. It became mere vivid, revealing strange forms of peerless fanes and alabaster tem ples and glories rare and grand in this mundane sphere. It reminded us of Wadsworth's splendid verse in his " Ex cursien :' 'The appearance instantaneously disclosed Was et a mighty city, boldly say A wilderness of buildings, sinking far Anu salt withdrawn Inte a wondrous depth. Far sinking Inte splendor without end.' "But the city vanished only te give place te another isle, where the most beau tiful forms of foliage appeared imaging a paradise in the distant and purified air. 'The sun, wearied of the elemental com motion, sank behind the green plains of the west. The ' great eye iu Heaven,' however, went net down without a dark brew hanging ever its departing light. The rich flush of unearthly light had passed and the rain had ceased, when the solemn ehureh bells pealed, the laughter of children out and joyous after the storm is. heard with the carol of birds, while the dark and.purple weapons of the skies still darted illumination aieund the starling celleg'e, trying te rival its angels and leap into its dark windows." fall Iambs, Cfl3Kc ; spring lambs, $3 0t7 23 par head. Londen Telegraph. .A terrible memerial of tlie recent dread ful less of the steamship Navarre was fished up a lew days age by a smack, whose people found iu their trawl the bodies of a man and woman tied together, with their eyes bandaged. Probably the mysterious deep never yielded up a secret mere shockingly suggestive than these corpses. Whether the nitn and wemati were a married couple, or sweethearts, or brother and sister, we kuew net ; but their bodies, fastened together iu death, tell a meviug story of devotion, just as their bandaged eyes convey a most pa thetic picture of resolution and anguish. In tbe wreck el the Cirubiia it will be re membered that the survivors spoke of seeing some of the emigrants at the last moments cutting their threats te shorten the final strnggle Most narratives of disaster at sea contain passages of this kind, telling hew theso who Feemcd of a shrinking and timid nature when all was well steed forth most neble and perfect tvnes of heroes when danger was supreme; hew the swaggerer, the bully, the tyrant proved an abject cur, cashing him.self down upon the deck in bis terror, alter, natcly praying and shrieking in the agony of his lear ; hew some, unable te await the approach of the last mement, de stroyed themselves, while ethors, with folded arms and contracted brews, steed motionless upon the sinking hull, going te their death like men lest in thought. One of the most pathetic stories in the language is the account of the less of the Kent East Indiamcn by fire in 1825, for tie reason that a hundred particulars are introduced by the writer relating te the behavior of the peeple when all hepe was abandoned, and death seemed inevitable. We read of the little children who, when the flames had mastercd the ship, and all was uproar and horror en the deck, " con tiliued te play as usual with their toys in bed, or te put the most iuneceut and un seasonable questions te these mound them ;" of a young military officer io ie io mevincr from his wiiting desk a lock el hair, and placing it in his besom, that he might die with that sweet lecepsake upon his heart ; of another writing a few linis te his father and enclosing it in a bottle, " in the hepe that it might eventually reach its destination, with the view, as he stated, of relieving him from the long years el iruitlcss anxiety anu susnem-e which our melancholy fate would awaken;" of the elder soldiers and sailors seating themselves ever the fere hateh unilei which was the magazine, se that they might be instantly destroyed when the powder caught lira ; of cowards drinking themselves insensible or writhing iu thtir terror upon the decks; of yeuug girls praying calmly amid a knecliu crowd ; nf hrave men standintr collectively with New Yerk. ORNAMENTS JTOK DOI1S Jewelled Cellar!-, Expensive Blanket, Em- breiuered Wrapi, Etc. New YetkSnn " It costs a geed deal of money te keep a fasieuable deg nowadays," said a clerk in an up town store where all sorts ei fancy articles are sold. " Extremely fashionable women are following the Fiench very closely in the elaborateness of outfits for their pets. Until a couple of years age, all that any woman ever thought of putting en her deg was a cellar of mere or less elegance. We had cellars of every sort in stock, from plain leather or metal bands te richly ornamented and expensive work. Clasp cellars with family monograms 'cr crests in geld were made te order. About the time that bangles were being made from coins we made a number of deg col cel lars et geld and silver pieces. Russia leather and alligator leather reigned for. a while. These cellais usually had geld bound edizes. " But the deg shows of late years have created a craze among women for all sorts of ornaments for their dogs. Yeu see, ene woman would have a cocker spaniel or an Italian greyhound en exhibition in a velvet cage, and this would at once set all tbe ether women who visited the show crazy ever velvet cages. Anether woman would have a jewelled cellar en her deg, and all the women wanted jewelled cellars at once. The fashion of blanketing pups spread-rike wildfire at the deg show. Ah the bast de signs were copied. New there are richly embroidered lap rugs and fur raps for the dogs when they are taken out for a drive. These robes usually have a monogram or crest worked in the centre. The latess thing, however, is the deg bracelet." The clerk exhibited a number of little bracelets of geld and silver. They are made te fit the left legs of dogs, and most of them are much smaller than finger rings. Three of these rings were orna mented with diamonds. They are fastened en with miniature padlocks. often has it beeu repeated since in ether ways and amid ether seas ! The last is nut indeed, the worst, but it is ameug the worst. The Navarre is but ene of scen s of shiDS which have gene te their deem offering before they took the final pluugw, the most dreadful of all pictures of human anguish ; but the sufferings she embodied seem te survive yet, even iu her dead, when we hear of theso two corpses tied together coming te the surface, with their cjea blindfolded, and when we endeavor te realize by these devoted silent witnesses from the bed of the ocean something of the terror and the resolution, the fear, the courage, the wild despair and the passion ate supplication te heaven which made up the picture of that ai of all ether wrecks of a similar nature.
