Congressman Pbister, of Kentucky, prides himself en the fine quality of the whisky he keeps in his rooms at "Willar's hotel when he is in Washington for the season. He has always had a generous demijohn standing in a tempting position upon a handsome marble top sideboard. "Rnt his whisky was tee eoed. It drew such a crowd of Kentucky enthusiasts that it took nearly all his salary te keep the demiiehn filled. But Phister did net mind hew much was drunk when he was at home, tut when the Kentuckians came in during his absence and made themselves at home with his whisky he thought it abouttimetoputastopto such freedom, go le had a complicated lock put en the doers of the sideboard. When, ever he went out be locked up his demi john. He said te himself, "when I am home te preside ever the convivial Fcene the demijohn shall stand outside, but only then." He went out. He did net return te his room for several hours. When he did he went te the sideboard and unlocked the demijohn. "Well, I am damned," said Phister. Half the whisky was gene. The locked had net been tampered with in any way. It was a puzzle. Fer days Phister kept his whisky locked up, but it I Rppmed te ee faster than ever. Fnally the -j mystery was solved. One day Phister heard a great uproar of laughter in his room as he was returning te it. He burst into his room, and there Ire found Blackburn, Procter Knett, and a happy crowd. They had lifted the marblctep mirror and all from the sideboard, and had the demijohn just lifted from its place of concealment. It was easy enough te put everything back as it was, leaving the lock perfectly undisturbed. Phister read the riot act when he came in, but he was only laughed at for bis indignation. - The World Moves Skill ana Science Tri umphant.
