Jesse Shoemaker, one of our eldest and most rcsiected citizens, died last week at bis home in Martic township, near Liberty Square. On the 20th instant Valentine Gardiner, of this township died in the Geth year of his age. His funeral was last Monday; burial at Mount Hepe church. Special Dispateli te the Iktelliesscxk. Harrisbcre, April 24. There was no lack of petitions and remenstrances in the Senate te-day en the liquor prohibitory amendment. The amended anti-discrimination bill was reported favorably. The resolution of the Democrats calling the state treasurer te account for net turn ing surplus moneys in the general revenues into the sinking fnnd, was adopted unani mously, the Republicans having been assured that the state treasurer would have a satisfactory explanation te make. The anti-treatiug bill received 25 votes, which is less than a constitutional majority required te pass it. Among the Senate bills pass finally were the following : Senate bill fixing salaries of officers in cennties containing between sixty and eighty thousand inhabitants ; Senate bill te abolish the office of jury commissioners; Senate bill prohibiting street passenger railway cempapies from employing their hands mere than twelve hours a day ; Senate bill te authorize the admission into reformatory institutions of Pennsylvania of youth delinquents from Delaware. Rail road bills te authorize companies te change their routes and increase their capital stock, were amended en third reading ; they are intended te meet the demands of the Vanderbilt system. Senate bill giving right of eminent do main te harbor companies was passed finally. After the flual passage of the Senate bill allowing incorporated banks and banking institutions te change their names and place of business within the county where located, Senate adjourned. In the Heuse. In the Heuse the genaral appropriation bill was reported with amendment, appro priating enough -meney te allow the mem bers compensation for ene hundred and fifty days. The following bills passed finally : Heuso bill te secure laborers in and about rnittes, etc, the payment of their wanes at regular intervals ; Heuse judicial apportionment bill ; Heuse bill te prevent wagering and gambling in insur ance policies. The following bills were defeated constituting eight hours a day work ; regulating the mode of granting licenses te taverns, etc., of the fourth class ; providing for the election of Btate license commissioners. The Eeuse ad jeurned en a bill providing additional means for the safety et bituminous ceai miners. Charier uranted. A charter was issued te-day te the Eas Eas ten lock and manfactuiing com pany for the manufacture of locks, hardware and metal castings. The capital stock is $25,000. Dr. Bishop has re turned from Cambridge, te which place he had geno with the wounded circus men. He reports that with proper .care all the wounded men will recover. Charles W.
