MONDAY EVENING, APBIL 0. 1803,
ASTBANGE MVK.
I clasped her Blrusgling te my breast ;
I whispered love unknown ;
One kiss upon her lips I pressed -
And she was all my own.
I loved her with a love proleund
K'cn death could ne'er c"03trey
And yet I uiustcenleas I leund
My blNs had some alley.
One eve 1 saw her unaware.
Upen a fellow's lap,
Declaiming kisses rlpeand rare
I did net like the chap.
She had some laulta (as we have all),
And one 1 hoped te throttle
She had, alas, what I mnsi. call
A weakness ler the bottle.
One morn I met her ere was made
Her toilette, and beneath
An old straw hat her luugu betrayed
My darling had no teeth.
Unconscious et my presence, she
With aril :ss antics rare.
Tere off her hat, and gracleui me! -
Her head was minus hair.
But love is leunded en a lock
And mighty in its might.
Fer I could learn, without a shock.
She could net read nor wiite.
She could net dance nor sing a tune.
And scarcely could converse ;
But what cared I she was my own
Fer better or ler worse.
O ! new I loved her 1 centctsed
Devotion and you, maybe,
Would de the tame it you possessed
Anether such a baby.

A Frultlees Attempt Mle by a Ulsreputabln
rbyslciau or I ItUburgh.
An attempt te blackmail Mary Ander Ander
eon, the- actress, by Dr. A. G. Marshall, a
skilled but worthless physician of Pitts
burgh has just became known, although
the attempt -was made sorae two mouths
age. Dr. .Marshal!, about sis mouths age,
was released from the penitentiary, where
he had served a term of four years for
being implicated in an abortion which be
came a notorious case. Seme time in the
early part of January he wrete te Dr.
Hamilton Gnftin, Miss Andersen's step
father, saying that he had iu his posses
sion seme letters written by Miss Ander Ander
eon, which greatly compromised her. As
he did net doubt that their publication
would infure Miss Andersen in her profes
sion and iu her private life, he presumed
Dr. Griffin would like te get possession of
tiicm.
Ne notice was paid te this letter, and
Dr. Marshall wiote ajjaiu, baying that he
would certainly have the letters published
unless be was paid $4,000 for them. Dr.
Griffin then sent the letters te Chief el
Police lleisel, with instructions te leek up
Dr. Marshall, liud out his character and
have hhn prosecuted for blackmail. lie
further stated that he had a picture of
Miss Andersen in a state that would net
be pleasant te be made public, and that
unless he was paid $10,000 copies of the
pictures would be taken in reduced size,
put iu covers, etc., and sold. Chief
lleisel, after a little investigation, deter
