Chicago Tribune. After Lucy returned from Boarding Ssbooland began Laying Pipe to secure the Young Man of whom I told you in my last uuuiber, slio coaxed ber Papa to let her tako lessons from a Singing Master, and pretty soon she could Vocalize quite we'i, and loved dearly to sit in the Parlor and Turn Ilerself Loose on tto piano. Lucy was very partial to Sentimental songs, and seemed to be a Little Gone on those that bad rather sappy titles and the words to which did not mean anything in particular. Sho would bustlo around the Music Stand for awhile, and then Como To The Surface with a lot of such Truck as "Angel Voices Now Are Calling," " Darling, Kua My Eyelids Down," "Wbonthe Brown is on tho Heather," and so forth. To hear Lucy singing " Tread Lightly, for Mother is Sleeping," while her Mamma was out in tho yard with her mouth full of Clothespins was worth quite a journoy, but Lucy never deemed to think of the Incongruity of such proceedings. She would Wrestle tho piano every day, while both her Parents wore working hard, and never think that Idleness is tho Mothor of Matinees and that tho Singing Oirl Gathers No Boss. One beautiful summer oveniug sho was Having Her Hoot as usual, and bad got far enough into the pile of music so that sho was singing Sentimental songs. Fi nally sho started in on one that begins : " I am Sitting in the Glen," when sud denly ber Papa, turned to his Wifo and said : " How much do you think it would cost, mother, to move a fair sized glen about nine miles, and fix things so that it couldn't como back i ' Then Lucy began to cry and said that her Papa was a Brute. A FLOOD OF WEUUKU I1L1SS. Tte City Full ot llrlilal Couples A II ai vest for Hotel Men and Guides. Washington Star. Tho city is full of bridal couples. There hasn't been for several years such a Hood of newly-wedded bliss poured into the city at one time, and tho capital city may be said to be wreathed in smiles. There is nothing mean about a young couple on a wedding tour. They are happy, and they want everybody else to bo happy. They must have the best rooms in tho hotels, and as a clerk in uptown hotel told a Star reporter this morning, " There is not a vacant privato parlor in our house." The same is true of other hotels. These young people have their meals served iu their own rooms, and giro so little trouble that hotel men welcome their arrival with joy and their departure with sighs. Mr. Wiilard, of tho Ebbitt, always presents each bride with a handsome bou quet, and thus gives the sanction of ap proval to the marriage. As a rule they go sigbt-seing merely as a matter of form, and when a guide gets a young married couple iu tow he has what is technically known among the fraternity as a " solt snap." The guide, if ho has had excriencc with those kind ot visitors, very soon finds a comfortable seat in some quiot place and asks them to wait until he goes for per mission to enter a certain room or build ing. Tho guide takes his dcpaiture, and knowing that he would not bo missed for fire or six hours, embraces tho opportu Lity to attond the funeral of a friend or plays cards with other guides who have also bridal couples iu tow, and in tho latter part of the day makes his appcarenco before his em ployers, whom ho finds seated iu the eamo place, apparently having forgotten his existence. When he apoligizes for the delay he is smilingly told that he was not very long away, aud so the sight seeing is resumed. Tho biidal couple scatter happiness around them wherever they go, and as there are about forty couples now iu this city the amount if happiness that is now being dilTui-cri id the community can readily bo calculated. It has in fact assumed such proportions that no dQubt Mr. Raff will soon designate it as a business, and levy a special license tax.
