bar, who was committed to prison for SO
days, by Alderman Samson, for being
drunk and disorderly on Saturday night,
as noted elsewhere, was taken belore

was shown that he had been held to an
swer at court on two charges of assault
and battery, and bad also been committed
for being drunk and disorderly. It was
claimed that the lesser offense was merg
ed in the greater, all of them having taken
place at one ono time, and tho defendant
should be discharged. The committing

Mo Water IB the Court House.
Owing to a dispute betwoen the tsuperiu
ftondent of the water works and tho county
commissioners, relative to tho water rent,
the superintendent yesterday shut off tho
water from the pipes that supply tho
court house, causing constcrnatiou and in
convenience to the county officers' and
employees. It appears that this year
the superintendent taxed the county $130
for the use of tho water while only from
$90 to 110 had been paid in former years.
The commissioners refused to pay the in
crease but paid $109.25 on account. Hav
ing failed to pay the balauoo after dnc
notice given tbe superintendent shut off the
water. A consultation was had this morn
ing and tho matter was adjusted, the
superintendent making a deduction of $5
and tho commissioners paying tho balance
after which tho water was turned on. -

Several other properties of Mr. Rcngier's
estate will bo sold by public sale this even
ing. jl Leak at tbe Reservoir.
Something of a panic was created last
evening by a report that one of the walls
of tbe east reservoir had given way. The
report proved to be unfounded and grow
out of tho fact that forsomo timo past the
basin has been leaking a good deal near
the southeast corner, and fears have been
entertained that tho wall might give way.
The superintendent reports that the leak
is not much, if any larger than it has been
heretofore. A break in tbo east basin at
this timo would be very disastrous, as tho
west basin has been emptied for tbo pur
poso of having it cleaned.

Itecomniendlne Delaware Law.
Wilmington Every Evening.
Lancaster's incendiarism stands almost
alone as an example of systematic and
persistent outlawry in a civjlizcd com
munity. The frequent occurrence of this
shocking crime there is phenomenal and
the remedy, now that onoof the criminals
has been caught, should be pitilessly ap
plied. Lancaster county would be happier
and safer if she would adopt Delaware's
stern code, and doom to death the fire bugs
that are making her a by-word.
Base Ball.
In our article in yesterday's York Daily
commenting on the game between the
York and Ironsides ball clubs, it was
stated that the Laucaster boys are
too light to compete with a good club.
The Ironsides boys think they can wax
tho Yorkers any timo, and they are will
ing to pay the expenses of the club to this
city if they will come over and play a
game upon any day next week.
