MnMM-aMha LANQASTER DAILY INTELMaENQEB, THURSDAY, AUGUST 24, 1882. OUE SOUTHERN FEIENDS. BELOW MASON AMU DIXON'S UVJE. The Ham Fran Cecil County What Onr Marylaad Melcfabers Are Volar The Crop oaa Other Matter. Correspondence of thelsmxiGExcza. Rowlandsytlle, Md., Aug. 22. Tbo picturesque village, Rowlandsvillo, is situated on the Octoraro, near where it empties into the Susquehanna. Its loca tion is similar to the location of Safe Har bor in Lancaster county. The Columbia & Philadelphia and Baltimore Central rail roads form a junction about a half a mile below the Tillage, which can boast of two churches, one large roiling mm, ownea; and operated by the McCullough iron company, large grist and merchant mill, owned by Davis & Christie, three stores, one blacksmith shop, one saddle and har ness ostablishmemt, one drug store and a number of private residences. The mills are running up to their full capacity, the store-keepers are kept busy handing out goods, etc., and taking our village as a whole it might bo called a lively and busi ness place. The late rains will be the cause of a good corn crop in this locality. The farmrrs that have threshed are well pleased 'with the quality and yield of wheat. There is considerable tobacco being cul tivated in this vicinitv. Wm. Irwin & Son, lately of Little Washington, Fa., have four acres that are very even and fine looking ; C. P. Kirk has two acre?, Nor man Wills two acres, all of which is con sidered lino. C. F. Kirk has some which he is now cutting, which measures twenty three by thirty-one and two. Mr. Irwin expects to cut soon. Ho is 'erecting a largo and commodious tobacco house on his property which he recently bought. It is generally conceded that Cecil county can niiso as fine and largo tobacco as her neighboring county of Lancaster. Tho Susquehanna is low. Bass fishing is like the old fellow pitching pennies, when asked how he made out ho replied that sometimes ho won and sometimes ho lost. So with bass fishing in this sec tion ; sometimes they catch and somotimes thov don't. Mr. Wako Gatchelf, of Rowlandsvillc, had a valuable cow fall over an cm baukmeut one day last week and broke her neck. Tho young men of llowlandsvillo con template having a grand picnic in a short tinio in tho danciug giove. Thoy have had two already which woio woll attended both by young and old. Good music, good dancing and a general good tinio all round. Davis & Christie are repairing their mill by putting in a purifier, new bolts, &C, and will soon have it in running order for making a faucy grade of Hour. STHASliUHO HKWS. Tho ono in honor of whom tho party was given was the recipient ol many beautiful presents.
