Wo liiitt a wedding at our bouso l33t night, Willi throng ot guest? aud maze of flowers; Tlic rooms were brilliant with their b'szo ot light; in song and leisllng parsed the hour?. My little nephew, lour year and a half, Bewildered, glad and wonder-eyed. Saw all t'je glitter, heard tho song and laugh. And ate unwonted sweets beside. Nettday he pondered much, an wise iolksdo, Then craved or uie a little boon; "Aunt Jeanie, why don't yon get married, too? I hope you'll do it very toon." " Dear child," I bah', and stroked hlj curly head, You would not wish it If you knew That I must go away It I should wed. Instead ol living hero with you " III face grew grav, for lie. had only thought Of wedding cakes and !cc sweet; But. it with loss ot Auntie It were bought. The least would bo a doubtful treat Ho clasped my neck and kissed sni on the cheek. Then said tho loving little elf, "Aunt Jeanie. don't get marrieJ, till next week, Aud I will marry you myself." C. M. .St. Denjs, in Our Continent. CMKrUt, AMU TIMKLY H1N1.S. For the ttutaadiuan and Householder. Germantown Telegraph. The United States produce?, according to the reports of tho census, 44,113,005 bushel of barley, 11,817,327 of buckwheat, 1,754,801,532 of Indian corn, 408,8"W,y99 of oats, 159,831,593 of ryo, and 459,479,505 of wheat. Of the heveral states, Califor nia produces the inosl bailey, 12,539,561 bushels ; New York the most, buckwheat, 4.4G1.200 bushels; Illinois the most corn 325,792,481 bushels, oats 03,189,200 bushels ; and Pcsinsylvauia the most rye, 3,083,621 bushels. Recently wo called attention to tUo tur nip as being iu season to sow. It is worth remembering iu addition to what we said then, that if the ground bo rich it may bo sown in many parts of the Middle States as late as tho first of September, with every pros-pert of a fair crop. Tho tu nip grows very rapidly when tho sou is r:cli. aud indeed forgaidcn use tho plant should be grown in no othor than tho lichcst soil. A late sown turnip in rich soil is always a distinct vegetable fiom the turnip sown early in poor ground aud lelt to struggle with fato as host it may. Tho one is almost as good as an apple to cat raw better indeed than some apples of consid erable popularity ; while tho blow grown turnip is not, aud is wiry even when cooked. A correspondent iu Ohio asks us to give him tho weight of fai m products in pounds in that state, for tho lt-asou that while there, ho was told that :i l.iw existed in that, state providing for I he -sale of grain, beeds and vegetables by tho pound ; or iu other words, that a bushel must weigh so many pounds ; it is not a rule observed, and that an dibit was about to be made iu his section to eufoice the law. TILDISSCS INCOME TAX. 1 h (iiivti miient Counsel- Cndernluod to be In l'avorot DIstntBKing the Suit. The income tax case of the United States against Samuel J. TiUIen has been for some time under consideration by tho secretary of tho treasury and tho attorney general. It is understood that sornu of tho counsel engaged iu-it aic doiruus of having it dismissed, for tho icason that they would be itccuniarily benefited by such a disposition of it. On the 2il of May, Secietary Folger addressed n letter to Green B. Raum, in which he said that if tho faets in tho possession of tho gov ernment council did not warrant them in going on with tho case, it should ho dis continued, but it was a matter to bo left entirely in their hands. Attorney General Brewster also concurred in this view. Judgo Pioircpor.t and tho other counsel have been notified of the position of the government. The Work or an Karthqcake. On the 11th aud 12th of last mouth, Siena, Italy, was visited by a series of alarming earthquake shucks. The soldiers were all turned out of tho barracks, and the people rushed out of their houses on to the Lizza for safety. Tho houses rocked ; tho plaster camo tumbling down tho chimneys. The shocks were repeated, some strong, somo weak, throughout the day at intervals of a quarter to hail an uour. I ho bells were rung ; the thrice holy Madonna del Vuotc was uncovered. Somo of the nobility, afraid of their own houses, had their car riages dragged to tho Lizza and slept there in tho open air. At 2 in tho morning there came a shock as stioug and terrifying as if a mine had been sprung under the city. After that tho force of the concussion de creased. As to the causes of the phenomenon, there cau be no doubt, a correspondent asserts, that it was owing to the municipality having just put up two tablets to Uaribalui. PLKASUKK SCKKKKS WAIL. ID. State Treasurer Baily states that the state treasury bad on deposit in the Ex change bank, at Franklin, $85,000, and holds Cashier Craft's receipts for that amount. Besides these, he also has the Kworn statement of the bank, made at the end of each month, which is required from all banks in which state funds are deposit ed. As an additional security the state has a bond of $100,000 from the bank, the sure ties on which are men amply able to pay tho amount of the state's deposits. Re garding the statement that the state treas ury was only credited witu sa,uuu on Craft's books, and that the bank does not consider itself liable for any larger amount. General Baily says that his receipts are sufficient, and he is not supposed to keep books at both ends of the line. He is not in the least alarmed, and says the state will get every cent deposited with tho Ex change bank. Craft's defalcation, it is believed, will entail a loss of $200,000 on the bank. , A Cable Connection for Two Continent!.
